Hey Ron, I need a new seat for my '06 GL1800 ... anyone in your MC maybe have one to sell? Thanks! Btw ... non-wavers list was hilarious! π I have a king-size XL that I haven't tried yet. My club died of Covid-19. We had 50+ members, but not being able to meet for 2 years messed it up. I have a new Magna seat if you think it would help π€ππ€ There are all kinds on eBay at all prices. It might be a opportunity for a custom seat. They also have new seat covers if you're cover is worn out. Sorry to hear about your club! It's only about $400 for a new one so that'll likely be the way. Recommended cover for the new one?

I really have no experience with the covers. The Kingsize seat doesn't have heat which we really don't need, but the passenger seat is smaller.

Well ... seats are backordered with no ETA so I bought a beaded seat cover. It gets good reviews on the Wing forums so we'll see!

The R18 with a taller aftermarket windshield So fine looking. You can do your own maintenance, right?

The R18 with a taller aftermarket windshield So fine looking. You can do your own maintenance, right? Well, that is the annoying part. I was a Harley mechanic, so I can do the work, but I canβt. The engine and transmission fall below the frame. The rear jacking point is the exhaust bracket on each side. It is set up like a car, where the muffler hanger is rubber mounted and slips on to the exhaust bracket. At 10% over cost, which is my employee discount, that BMW jack is $1600 before tax. The oil filter is recessed under the bike, so you need that jack. This bike needs a valve check every 6k, which necessitates having that jack to bump the rear tire to bring each check to TDC. You cannot even change a front tire w/o lifting the front end up with a hoist (pictured below with my newly found, stupendous photo posting skills). When I worked at Harley the store was open on Monday, but the shop was closed, I used to do all my services on my bikes then.

If you notice the βfine German engineeringβ, the windshield should stand more vertical to prevent buffeting. BMW states the stock shield is 20β, but that is the entire screen. Normally screens are measured from the headlight cutout, to the top edge. Stock is 16β, this one is 20β, with a slight flip.

They would probably sell several times as many if they didn't have such a bad reputation for maintenance.

It looks like they would really limit the lean. My R69 never came close to scraping the cylinder.

It has a 32 degree lean angle. Mounted on the floorboards are pavement scrapers, once you hit that, you canβt lean much Rutherford or you will be dragging the valve cover, covers. Those valve. Covers are actually ignition covers, the valve covers are under them. The r18 full dressers are about an inch higher, so they are at a 35 degree lean angle. Supposedly they hired a Harley ex corporate guy to help them with the R18. I have lowered Harleys, I grind down the floorboards, but that is the worse you get.

The R18 with a taller aftermarket windshield What do you think of the shifter? I threw my leg over one, and I thought they were really poorly designed. Too narrow, too close to the motor, and the heel shifter didn't seem any better in practice.

It is poorly designed, but I have no trouble shifting. I am used to Harleys with floorboards. The pegs are too short, but like I said I am used to it now. The mid control posture is actually better for my back. The bike has a lot of design flaws. I got such a great deal on it due to being a bmw employee I still prefer Harley touring bikes, but I am disgusted with Harley 12 years ago more a as nd more USA made parts were now made in China.

Update ... the 'Stone is a great back tire. Rock solid in the twisties and no play on the tar snakes. ππ

Does a 4-wheel drive Yamaha 350, air cooled, count as a "Motorcycle"?

Thanks Ron! I ordered a beaded seat cover to try for the summer. We'll see how it goes. With approximately 4200 commuting miles on this beaded seat, I can say I'm liking it. Pressure points are spread out and it gets decent air flow to "the boys". π

I have to share this. Our friend Elizabeth is a 67 year old motorcycle racer. She's at the Mugello race track in Tuscany Italy. Here's a picture of her on the podium #1!

That's awesome, Ron! π
After a short break through the hottest, wettest part of the year, I'm back on the bike for my commute. Just a few minutes into the ride I started singing "Hello Old Friend". π
