We have something else that's trying to kill us. Cars with "driver assistance" apparently can't recognize motorcycles. 48 incidents of drivers using autopilot rear-ending bikers. 39 out of 48 incidents were Teslas, so if you see a Tesla in the rear view mirror, look out.

Sheesh!! 😠
This morning's ride in was rainy with some pretty cool lightning shows in the dark, cloudy skies. Worse part is passing those semis with all that road mist coming up.

Hopped on the bike this morning and ... no ignition. Yesterday I rode in some pretty hard rain and I suspect the spark plug drain holes may be clogged. Might as well replace the plugs while I'm in there. 🙄

Might as well replace the plugs while I'm in there. 🙄 I almost hit a guy on a motorcycle whose engine apparently cut out in a serious rain storm here. He was on Colorado 159 south of San Luis. There is no road shoulder and the two lane highway is on a high berm. No where for him to go and no where for me to go to avoid hitting him. He rolled into the oncoming traffic lane which was empty and then rolled into my lane. I hit the brakes, the highway was very wet and I am in a pick up truck. If I had not anti lock disc brakes I probably would have hit him and, at highway speed, that would have been all, brother. Scary for me and I can only imagine how he felt.

I always hate to hear it when bikers go down, even when its their own fault. (Though this case sounds like it really wouldn't have been either of your fault)

I made a deal to sell the trike today. We can use the money but I feel like I'm losing my identity. Plus my dreams of the rides I wanted to make. The pros for selling it are that it needed $1k in work, Honda isn't working on them anymore and I'm afraid of losing 100% of the value. Haven't seriously ridden it since 2017 when we went to New Mexico. Last time we rode together was 3 months into the lock down. Maybe a 4wd is in our future. We'll see. 😪

The Honda dealers won't work on bikes older than 10 years and they aren't making parts for them anymore either. If your dealer is still working on them, then you are lucky. The local dealers don't have the techs to work on the newer bikes, much less the older ones. I might look into a Suzuki or Yamaha and put a kit on it. As much as I hate it I might buy my nephews FXR. We'll see.

Mine is a 2006 but I've never gone to a Honda Dealer for service. My local shop has been able to handle anything I can't on my own, so far. As for parts, there's got to be a lot of salvage out there with all those bikes in circulation. Still, it sucks to hear that Honda won't support one of its most popular lines.

On the other hand I might pick up another Bonneville. I was thinking about that yesterday. I want to ride the new BSA Goldstar, 650 single cylinder, double overhead cam and liquid cooled. Not sure if they will ever be imported here. No wealthy British friends who could airmail me one, LOL!

Every highway needs road shoulders. They figured it is a poor county so screw 'em.

Once a month I run a two lane highway with narrow lanes, no shoulders through relatively flat country, at the posted 65mph, my mirrors are a few feet away from the oncoming semis. And the cars want to drive 75-80.
One moment of inattention could spell disaster, always glad to get off that road.

I really can't work on bikes anymore. Can't bend and stoop. Even when I could it's really hard to keep up with all the extra body parts on the Goldwings. The only motorcycle mechanics around here are Harley troglodites. A younger person with more free income would be better able to deal with it.

On the other hand I might pick up another Bonneville. I love Limeys. Had a 65 Trophy 6 that was freaky fast for that model. Easy to work on too. But..at 75 I don't bounce as good as I used to.

A guy in town has a 68 Bonneville but I really prefer the modern electric start/no oil leak models. He has a couple of airheads that have promise too.

I rode a couple of 500 cc Indian Enfields. Nice bikes but not quick. Good transportation and gentle riding. They do not like to go far at higher Freeway speeds I am told by owners. This may be why the Indians made the new Gold Star liquid cooled?

Might as well replace the plugs while I'm in there. 🙄 Update ...my model doesn't have drain holes at all as it's a sealed enclosure. Went ahead and changed the plugs with still no turn-over. Toggled the engine kill switch a few times and heard something like a relay resetting. Fired right up after that. 👍😎

Heavier coat indeed ... it was 36F when I left for work this morning! 😲
The only part that really got cold was the tips of my fingers ... gotta figure that one out.
