It was a very nice ride into work today with minimal cager obstruction. Perfect temperatures and road conditions and those six cylinders just purring away. 👍😎

Another nice looking machine, especially with the leather seat and panniers. Are those made by Brooks?

I'm a sucker for older British bikes, and recently picked up this project. It is a 1975 Norton Commando MkIII, last on the road in 1983. My first bike was my 1969 Commando. I still own and enjoy riding it, but it is kick start only, and knee and ankle issues mean that I do not ride it as much as I used to. The MkIII has an electric starter, and should allow for more riding once rebuilt. RSD

I sure loved it and am often sorry it was sold off years ago. Good luck with yours. The ride is worth the trouble.

The bike I posted is a Janus Halcyon 450. They are built in Goshen, Indiana. Pretty much all I would ever want in a bike. Wife would be so against it though, at my age , that I would not even try to fight that battle. If I lived in a rural area, I could see riding that to and from town, or tooling around small country roads. Oh well…..

Just to ride around the rural northern part of New Mexico and southern CO on our two lane blacktop. 650 to 750 cc would be more of my preference but a 450 is fine. Not in a hurry and not the speeder I once was. The lines are so classically inspired. I have to admire them.

All I know about motorcycles is my dad had a Norton before I was born. If I remember I'll try to see if I can dig up a picture of it.

Are the leather saddle and panniers from Brooks? I ask because they are the classic makers of the same for bicycles.

Bought mine in 1971 because Ralph Richardson. the great English actor, rode one. He said if one cannot find a Brough Superior, this is the one. Good advice.

Eli likes the idea of a sidecar. I like the sidecar idea. For a time I considered a Ural. They have two wheel drive models with power delivered to the sidecar wheel. Seems handy enough. Then I read the build quality is abysmal.

I’ve heard the same thing. Poor Russians they can’t build spacecraft, rubles, armies, or motorcycles. I hear their samovars are not too bad.

T-34 with the 85mm was a good one I have heard and read. In 1981 I had occasion to observe a night maneuver of tanks and infantry while in East Germany traveling from Hamburg to West Berlin. They had us detoured to the roadside so they could pass. They seemed capable enough flooding across some poor bugger's pasture under star shell light. Of course, no one was shooting at them.... yet.

T34 and T34-85 were good because of their armor profile and speed. Decent gun on the T34-85. Steel quality mediocre and construction was shoddy. A major work-out to drive one. As we did with the M4, the Soviets just overwhelmed the Nazis with numbers. A good enough machine produced in the tens of thousands was something Germany had no answer for. And they had that problem in the East and the West. We produced almost 50,000 Shermans and the Soviets built about 85,000 T34 variants. Yikes! Germany managed about 25,000 tanks from the Panzer 1 through the Tiger II.

It's funny how a small temperature change is so noticeable on the bike. Most mornings have been around 63F this last couple of weeks. This morning, it was only 55F and I almost stopped to throw in my coat liner. I guess the summer jacket is almost done for the year!

Wow ... I guess this thread will likely go the route of the Dodo like the Snuff thread. 🤔
It was 43F this morning and I bundled up like a kid going sledding. Then, like that same kid, decided I had to pee. 😅
