Thanks, all. We are really excited to hit the road again. Headed west on I-40 again, by chance?

Moving the Spyder back to AZ for the winter. Left Chicago yesterday Wednesday. Stopped in Worthington, MN. Crossed SD and went through the Badlands National Park. Thar was awesome. Spending the night at Mount Rushmore. Tomorrow Devils Tower and then south to Baggs, WY. Not sure which way after that. Have a few ideas, Weather will dictate๐

I'm assuming you mean the Verde Canyon Rail? The only thing that parallels it is the Verde River ... I do have a class 5 rated raft, though. Right now, you'd have to get out and pull the boat way too much. Spring run-off is about the only good time to actually "run" it.

We drove 17 in the truck last year and it was very nice. Turned off to Sedona then to the train station. We drove a lot in the area south of Flagstaff. We did a lot of rafting when we were younger, but I doubt we will be doing it again. We ran one river 3 times in one day during a rainy day.

The last time we ran the Verde River, the water levels dropped so fast from day to day that we didn't get to our destination on time. It was the next day when we finally arrived at the take-out point and I had several messages from the Maricopa Sheriff and Yavapai Search and Rescue. Hey ... at least I know my friends are looking out for me! LOL

I have the T-shirt to prove....that I have the shirt....never been there though. My daughter in law knew the owners of a KOA campground there and worked summers up there as a college student, she said that all the bike riders were great tippers.
I heard it is pretty nice, sounds like a great ride, Charlie!

A lady friend of mine is a summer US Park Service Interpretive Ranger at Devil's Peak. I tease her plenty about UFOs and Sasquatch. She is a good sport about it all. She is also a NRA certified firearms instructor and a dead shot with a Beretta 92. I seen her at the range at the place she taught classes for the NM Concealed Carry license. She loves Devil's Peak and told me what it is made of but I forget.

It's rock. The core of an ancient volcano. What, were you expecting dilithium? ๐คฃ๐๐ค ๐ Gee, I thought it was Plaster-of-Paris. What kind of rock was my point. So, I looked it up and it is a phonolite porphyry intrusion from about 40.5 million years ago. The rock is a light to dark-gray or greenish-gray igneous rock with conspicuous crystals of white feldspar. As the magma cooled, hexagonal (and sometimes 4-, 5-, and 7-sided) columns formed, each about six feet in diameter. Any questions? Ask John.

Can't wait got get home and go for a ride with Blondie on the Fatboy.
Have been in Chicago all week for meetings.
8 hours in the airport yesterday (ok, ok, it was in the Admirals club with free drinks, but hey) only to have all flights cancelled because of weather.
Patiently waiting (sorta) on a United flight :-( to get home to NC this afternoon.
