Thanks for the update and I certainly wish we were close enough to help out. It's great to hear that everything is coming along though!

Thank you sir, and yes a lot do because there a lot more accurate and are easier for those who don't have the experience running a wood lathe. I purchased a Mathews PM1030V (10" x 30") lathe, pretty nice and at a good price ta boot.
Nice. Make sure you have everything ready so the young fit delivery guys can put it into position for you. Although I can lift stuff from waist level or higher, lifting that would do my back no good. Off course we all will be keen to see pics of your creations. No need to spend heaps on no fancy mobile. Mines an older model that cost $50 brand new & it takes good pics (If I could only figure out how to upload them to my laptop ) If only it was that light, it weights around 425 pounds and they'll be delivering it (at an extra cost of course) on a trailer with a lift-gate. Hopefully they'll unload it close enough to my shop so I can use a motor hoist to pick it up and maneuver it into the shop and atop the stand.
And no cellphone a tall sir.

Nice looking lathes, Ron, both of them, for different reasons.

You lucky dog, you... One day I'll upgrade from my 9x20 Enco, and that's what I want. Aint nothing wrong with an Enco and besides I don't know how lucky I am cause I had to sell off my pipe collection to get it. Reckon maybe I was lucky enough to have had the collection to sell but, not to have had sold it.

Ah, but this one looks like direct drive... I'm changing belt positions every other minute. Sorry you had to sell your collection, though. But, now that you'll be in business again, you might be able to build a new one!

I doubt very seriously I'll be able to rebuild my collection, a lot of them are pipes I just can't afford anymore because when I bought them they were half of what there going for now. Doesn't matter, I try not to think about them too much and look forward.

That's true, but a NEW collection can be built. Look forward, my friend. This is a new chapter.

It always pains the heart to have to get rid of things that you held dear...but you have a new start and with new equipment, that if you can get them where you need them, you will be able to start doing what you love to do, make excellent pipes and make people happy to know your name.
You have a new chapter starting...and an exciting one at that...you have the knowledge from when you were making excellent pipes before...and that knowledge is worth more than the whole shop together.
You can build a new collection or do what those of us who have done what you have done (ridding yourself of things close to the heart) by looking at the pictures that you have. Can't take it with you when you die, so enjoy what you are about to embark on...a new life in the pipe crafting arena...you are among the group called the greatest...something you can be proud of.

Material things in life comes and goes, your journey to a new shop, lathe is really something. My wife and I are throwing clothes in Second bedroom closet in preparation of Twin son coming from Houston to stay with us. We couldn’t believe the crap we put in that closet, took 3 days, bags and bags of clothes we gave to The Arc, a affiliate of the Salvation Army. They were the only ones that helped me in the service, and after a Hurricane. RD it’s a new Chapter.

Good to hear that it is all coming together, Ron. I deliver quite a bit of high end woodworking equipment, some of the stuff from Germany, the import paperwork has the declared value... man, some of that stuff is pricey! From what I have read, a lot of pipe makers use metal turning lathes? I have never been told why though. If you see an online pic of your lathe, can you post a picture? Thank you sir, and yes a lot do because there a lot more accurate and are easier for those who don't have the experience running a wood lathe. That looks amazing, Ron! I would love to have a lathe like that. I am really looking forward to seeing your work again. The blasted brandy I bought from you is one of my favorite pipes. I could use another of your creations.

I am in the same point of fixing up my shop for gunsmithing. I am doing my own wiring. All this depends on my energy level and my back holding up. I usually get in one day of work and 2 days to recover.

I do know material things count as LAST but, It doesn't make it any easier to let them go see'n I let so much go already for my daughters sake only to be right back here at the beginning again. No feeling sorry for myself, just a bit of frustration and aggravation on my part.
Ron, that's my daily schedule sir, do what I can get away with but, I'm too mule headed to stop until I'm done and then suffer twice as much later for it. Besides, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

...I believe most of us give a hoot, Ron, and are pleased at your progress... The title of the thread was not that I thought no one gave a hoot, it was just a title to attract attention of those who were interested. A lot of threads on forums don't always interest everyone, I'm guilty of it myself.

UPDATE: Well things are coming along inch by inch. I had a gentleman pipesmoker stop by for two days and we got almost all the insulation down and I finished that yesterday (took about 30 minutes at my snail pace). Had to do a little work on my table saw seeing I purchased used in Utah and had to undo what the former owner thought was GE (good enough). Had cut parts for the ramp I'm putting in awhile ago and finally finished putting it together and painting it to match the shop yesterday also. Today I got it installed and the no slip grips put on it, later I might put a handrail on the left side if I feel extra energetic (that might be awhile I'm thinking). Next is putting up 3/8" plywood on the walls, nope! aint gona paint it, just getting it cut right and put up will be enough work on my part. Got 18 outlets, 3 windows, A/C unit and of course a door to try and fit the paneling around properly and measure twice, cut once means nothing to me. It's usually measure twice cut once and start all over.

The thing about old age is that you feel so impotent...not being able to help out when you want to but your body tells you otherwise...time when you had money to burn and now lucky to make ends meet...want to help a friend, but unable to do so...that is what I mean about being impotent, unable to do what your heart wants to do, but the body or finances say otherwise. It's a pisser!! Grrrr.
Great to see you moving along, Ron...looking forward to seeing new pipes on your site, looking forward to you feeling good about your new life after having to start over. We are all looking forward to that.

Thank you all, and yes it's a slow process for me being my back doesn't like me anymore but, I try to pace myself when the job isn't to overwhelming. Looking at when my Lathe is suppose to be delivered (around the 1st part of July) I still have a little time left. Don't figure on building benches or shelving till I get it and my other machines all moved in. Once all the machines are in I think it'll be easier to plan bench work and shelving cause once there in I aint gona be moving anything....... I hope.

It's hard enough for me to do and I know your just not able (The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak) so to speak. No worries, it'll get done one way or toth'er.
