I was raised around Quater horses for the small Cajun straight tracks, my first Cousin who is a lawyer from Houston, bought my Aunts farm and converted it to a Thoroughbred farm, my Father was a straight track jockey, Horses and raceing is in our blood, seeing Dewaynes picture of him on that horse reminded me of a Remington Portrait.

The owner came and got the buckskin mare last night. She was a perfect lady, so much so that he rode her the 3 miles home down the highway instead of trailering her.

Just got another 30-day contract to ride another horse. This will take me up into the middle of November, which should close the season out perfectly.
This mare is 15yo, and broke. But she's been spoiled terribly. Bucking, rearing, the works. We originally got her for just a 1-week tune-up, which we finished today. The owner just came, and said she's doing so good after a week, he wants to see what we can do with a whole month. So he handed me cash, drove off and left her here. π
Yep. I'm smilin'.

That is what right living does for one. When you do what your heart tells you to do...life just falls in place for you. I am glad that is true for some. Others, everything is struggle. I have seen both many time over the years as have we all.

Last horse of the season, most likely. She's ok, she's just been spoiled, ridden by dinks and then left off for so long she forgot her place in life.

So right about horses forgetting their job when not in use for long time.
As a kid of 13-14 I had a job to groom, pick and saddle ten horses everyday leaving them tied to a rail in front of the ranch office. Most were never ridden on a particular day but they were ready and reminded of their job. Too many nowadays are left out in a field as ornaments.

Will is saddling up a customer's mare to go out for a bit. Its been raining all morning and is still raining lightly, there is a stiff, chilly breeze blowing and the mare hasn't been saddled in over a week.
I reckon that's what they call " cowboy up".

Yesterday, after being off for a week while we were in Idaho, she bucked under saddle, and then stopped and bucked twice while out on the trail. Today, she did good. Will is just rolling in now from about a 7 mile ride.

That is one sure-footed pony on such a grade! I think it's just the picture making it look that way. Its just a gentle roll coming out of the wheat field into the homeplace

Your landscape could be right down the road from me, instead of 1000 miles away. βCept no wind farms here.

Beautiful day for working horses. This mare goes home in a week, and that's the last client horse of the season. The fella riding with Will on Boone is a homeless guy staying with us for awhile while he gets his life back in order. He's doing fantastic, and has taken to horses like a duck to water. He wants to start learning to rope now. Horses done right is one of the greatest re-hab tools known to man.

Pretty windy today, and kind of cold. But Will and I joined some friends and went riding today. These 2 fillies are young, 2 and 3 years old, and pretty green, but they did good. I needed the exercise too.
