Does anyone besides me have small hands that can't handle big guns? I traded away a double column 9 MM because of that and got a single column 380. I found a stainless Luger that I liked a lot but it cost a thousand bucks..Just didn't have that much to spend. I have the opposite problem: Sausage fingers! Fairly large hands. At least with revolvers you can tailor a grip to your hand. Thick double stack semi-autos fit me pretty well most of the time. Big hands here too. The original Glocks had wide grips that felt great in my big mitts. I would like to pick up a Glock 22 (or 35) sometime. Possibly a factory refurbished. I need to rejoin my company's gun club or join one of the indoor ranges nearby and shoot more to justify the expense though.

How many of you fine pipe smoking lads and lassies, enjoy the Victorian elegance of a fine revolver? Victorian elegance brings a Wimbley Mark IV to mind. I've always wanted a Colt Peace Maker, a LeMatt, a Wembly, a Luger, etc.

AIM Surplus has used 22s for $299, but with no threaded barrel and only one mag. Ick; ugly ugly ugly. Shouldn't even be talking nasty Glocks on a beautiful revolver thread

There are a lot of Glock haters for some reason, but the police sure seem to favor them. I like the way they shoot and fit my hand, but they won't win any beauty contest. Thanks for the link to Bud's, David.

@walkman: Hey, I was just messing with you. I find Glocks ugly, and with so many firearms out there that are just as reliable but beautiful, I'd have to own a whole ton before I wanted a Glock. The whole reason I don't like them is their looks, not the quality or reliability or even the price.

I am another one that Glocks do not feel right in my hand...they are great guns, nonetheless.

I carried one of these for quite a while in Alaska as my daily CCW. I lived remote in the bush, and we had a lot of bears. So a .454 Casull was a comforting thing to have on the hip. But when I rode the 4-wheeler or snowmachine out to the truck and went to town, I didn't want to be swapping guns back and forth. So a Freedom Arms 83 in .454 with a 3" bbl did the trick. If it was sufficient for 800 lb grizzly, it would likely work for a 200 lb meth head. It was downright painful to shoot with 340grain +P bear loads. About the worst recoil I've ever pulled the trigger on, but super easy with normal .45lc rounds. But it was a beautiful, precision piece of work. I did leather work, so I made my own holster that sat high and close strong side, so it was no problem to carry, even as heavy as it was. That is one revolver I miss and wish I had back.

Better you than Me. LOL! I would never shoot loads like that in a revolver. Having done it a few times was in a 5.5 inch barrel Redhawk was enough for me.

I could get over the looks if the rest of the gun worked for me.

I am bent about the 44 mag mortor. If it was anywhere close to the point of aim I could live with it. If it can't make a head shot at 30 feet it's useless. I may ask a revolver specialist if I can find one. It shoots great groups, but they are in the wrong place.

I prefer my Deerfield carbine. 4+1 rounds is not great but should be effective against predators. Semi-auto, 18 inch barrel and a full stock. The down side is ammo is restricted to 240 grain or a little heavier. Big bullets will not fit in the rotary magazine.

I shot one of those around 1970. It was OK, but it is way expensive now. I would rather have a lever action. I have a ton of 44 cal bullets and brass, dies, powder etc for the 44.

This isn’t about Revolvers but it’s shooting news. The Cleveland range is sponsoring a 22LR Competion Shooting today, many positions, quick time shooting and so on. Son is entering today, wish him luck.

I will have to check out that range if I ever get a chance. I've been way busy lately and it looks like it is going to stay busy for the rest of the year. I am so far from being able to shoot competitively that I can't see it from here.

What you shot in 1970 was not a "Deerfield" but its predecessor. The tube magazine used in that early model was troublesome and had to be cycled by hand too often. The new one uses a rotary mag which is more reliable. They were only made for a few years. I bought mine as soon as they were released. I have no idea what they sell for now. The only time mine failed to cycle was with low powered cartridges, target reloads. Not enough pressure to cycle the gas action. I had to hand eject. Then there is the bullet size limitation. Cartridges with a 265 grain bullet will not fit in the rotary mag which is a good reason to have a lever model instead. I used to keep a Cor-Bon or Buffalo Bore 280 or 300 grain in the chamber with four 240 grain in the magazine. The only advantage is at close range. Those five rounds can be fired very fast in a defensive situation against a large target like a bear.

No, I don't know the name, but it had a little magazine like a 10-22 on steroids that held 4 rounds. Edit. I tried to edit this right after I posted it but it didn't save. I know that the record is that Ruger didn't make that gun with the 4 round magazine until 2000, but that's the way I remember it. We bought a box of Remington factory ammo and 3 of us shot it. It jammed a lot and wasn't accurate. Plus it had a lot of recoil for what it was. It didn't impress me at all. It's been a half a century and my brain is tired, but I could have sworn it had the rotary magazine. I haven't ever shot another gun with that had a rotary magazine so I guess my only experience with one is in my mind.

My buddy's Freedom Arms 44 Special. Finely made revolvers. Only problem is the tolerances were so tight on this gun, that it would foul up fairly quickly unless you used the cleanest powders possible. He later sold this one because of that. It would some times happen as fast as 50 rounds or so. The cylinder would start to drag on the forcing cone. I think I would have just had a smith take off a miniscule amount from the back of the barrel or even sent it in and let FA do the work. I had one in 45 that did not do it.

Son shot in the Cleveland 22LR Competion, said he had the cheapest rifle there but was in top contention when a gully washer hit them and suspended the match, said shooting in a sand pit got sand over everything, was cleaning up in his garage and cussing the sand.

That sounds about right for Cleveland. I think it's Texas's versionof Sulphur LA.

I am really looking at the Ruger 22 precision rifle. Neat little rifles that shoot very well, from what I have heard and read. Treat yourself, Ron. And then show us the cool targets.

Alright, I am convinced that you live in the most isolated and deprived place in the United States. Do you want me to send you a box? I have a bunch, probably more than I can shoot.
