Someone gave me a Ruger .22 with a bull barrel. I never shot it, just put it away. Long time since I seen .22 long rifle ammo in these parts. That is insane. It is plentiful everywhere I go and has been for a long while. You must have some high powered hoarders in your part of NM. Ask them to hold a brick for you. Hell, there has to be a gun shop nearby that has some. I would have dropped you off a brick in April on my way to Deming if I had known.

The nearest store that sells ammo is Walmart, about 45 miles from here. They have not had .22 LR in a long time. Just say the word. That is most kind of you but not necessary. I have nothing to shoot. LOL! Except poachers on my property. I will need 8mm Mauser ammo for them, 197 grain. This time I will shoot over their heads to see if they enjoy that experience. That ammo can be ordered on line.

8mm will knock down anything that needs it. A few years back, me and a buddy were meteorite huntng down south of Tubac, AZ. We were on a friend's mesas that were being platted out for a neighborhood that never happened. There were signs of migrating people all over his land. Trails, dirty diapers, water jugs, piles of crap, clothing, you name it. We set up some cans and blasted away with my '47 Czech Mauser in 8mm and a couple of 9mm pistols. Burned up a hundred rounds or so of 8mm and a few hundred 9mm. I have sometimes wondered if all the gunfire spooked anyone that day? Someone had to have heard it and wondered what they were walking towards.

In the straight pull carbine, it is a bruiser! I shoot a little 1891 Argentine cavalry carbine in 7.65x53 Argentine. It is fun but also a meat tenderizer for your shoulder.

New laws in Texas September 1st. 21 to buy tobacco, brass knuckles are now legal and you can carry your gun to church. The last one is a technicality as people have been carrying to church for years as long as it's OK with the church.

It has to be shipped UPS, but I have been ordering ammunition online for years. Here's a link to a reputable dealer. Plenty 22 ammo here....... www.midwayusa.com/rimfire-ammunition/br?cid=7547&customerSelectedSort=False

UPS is a chore but since the ammo is not perishable we can work out the details of how to get here. .22 LR just is not important enough to me. I could use 8mm Mauser.

I killed my first deer with an 8mm Mauser. It is a good round, and doesn't get near the respect it deserves. Think 338-06.👍👍 It is wide. It is heavy. It is moving about as fast as a .30-06 projectile. It ought to account for something. Surely, those fussbudgets in Germany spent much time evaluating bullet diameters, bullet shape, bullet speed before replacing their remarkably successful 7mm cartridge. Some of their neighbors like the Scandinavians and Italians went smaller. Their next door neighbors, those Frenchies, seemed to feel an 8mm projectile was effective. So, what is a good German to decide? 8mm ist das beste von allem!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion but I really should stick with the 7.92 X 57 or so-called 8mm cartridges. If I had an old Spanish 7mm or such, that Hornady ammo would be just the thing. Sadly, none of the Hornady 8mm cartridges are available for sale in the United States. Strictly export.

No. The Germans fielded the 1888 Comission rifle before the 1898. It is in 8mm. The 7mm 1895 was used by Spain and several South American countries. The rifle that preceded the 1888 was the Mauser 71/84 in 11mm.

I haul a set of doubles into JG semi regularly...without getting political it is amazing how much mil surplus is available to buy and sell by them depending on who manages the executive branch.

They are crazy expensive. Full wishful retail prices. If I could get even close to $729 for my Camp 9 I would hand deliver it.

Yeah, the prices used to be much better.
Back in the day, people would drive in and they would load pallets in a pickup no questions asked. People in the firearms community claimed to see non english people doing the same. Word got out, and they demanded to record drivers licence numbers of Arizonans on ammo no matter how small the purchase... a lot of Arizonans wrote them off after that.

Charlie, do you remember $89 Soviet SKS rfles? I once pondered buying a crate of them. Now that would run me about $5000.

I remember when I could buy a box of 38 reloads for $6.99. That's when I could afford to shoot 500-600 rounds in one range visit I took an old buddy and his kids to shoot my 4" Taurus .357. Started them on 130 grain 38s. Then I showed them a 158 grain .357 cartridge, and said this might look almost the same as the 38s, but it ain't gonna shoot the same. Their reaction was pretty funny.

38 Special will be the last center fire handgun cartridge I shoot before I become too feeble to shoot handguns. Even then, I will shoot off a pistol rest off of a bench. Maybe I can shoot till I move on to the great smoking lounge in the sky?

Maybe I can shoot till I move on to the great smoking lounge in the sky? That is exactly why I have my old Colt Cobra. Once seconded to my wheel chair and enfeebled, that old Colt will be with me ready to defend and preserve.

I have about a thousand rounds of 38 target loads from 35 years ago. About a third are 147gr wadcutters over 3.2 grains of 231, and the others for the Contender I shot sillouetts with were 158 grain semi wadcutters over 5 grains of Bullseye I believe. And several thousand pieces of 38 brass. And at least a thousand bullets but I'm a little short on primers and powder.
