Colt wasn't first. It took a scared man to shoot this one with it's integrated automatic primer pan magazine.

Back in the wilder days of San Francisco's Haight Ashbury, where I lived in 19769 - 1970, in a top floor Flat lived a friend of mine. He used to fire a Colt Navy down the long corridor of the Flat at a target on the back wall. Not a full charge of powder but enough to get the ball to the wall. Sound familiar? Anyway, somehow the guys who shared the Flat with him were unconcerned. They would close the doors to their rooms and wait until the "all clear" was sounded. That was my first experience with what firearms discharged inside are like.

Revolvers are pretty fool-proof. (But there’s always some fool…) I don’t recommend relying on a bedside gun that hasn’t been range tested, even a revolver. If you’re not used to it, or at least know what to expect, the blast and flash from a snubby, especially fired indoors, can be quite disconcerting. Let us hope none of us ever have to find out. When I fired my 44 mag snubbie in the indoor range insulation fell from the ceiling and the manager outside the range fell off his stool. Glad I didn't fire it in the house! 😁 I know what you mean. I've got a generation 1 Thompson Center Contender - with a 44 mag barrel for it. Probably not a loud as your snubbie, but when I shoot it at the range, everyone else stops shooting and wants to know what the hell I'm shooting.

Got another blizzard scheduled to check in t’row. Took advantage of the lull to make the 150-mile r/t to pick up my Springfield SA35. Sweet little pistol even though I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Not enthusiastic about the “ improved trigger.” Only mediocre at best. Not too upset about that since I plan to send it to Cylinder & Slide for night sights and a trigger job. First shots t’row, weather permitting.

Nice looking pistol.
Sadly, Springfield decided to leave us leftys out in the cold with their version. Would love to see them release a new one with an ambidextrous safety.

I was zoned in on my own target shooting at an outdoor range, didn’t pay attention to the guy twostalls down.
He lit off a round from a .50 cal rifle and it lifted my ear muffs.
I packed up quickly, and he respected my ceasefire request while I did so.
Whenever I shoot my M1 Garand’s at the range, they get a lot of attention.

I don’t know, and I wasn’t in the mood to ask questions… it was at an outdoor range, it was a heavy assed rifle. It felt like blood should have been running from my ears after that. I did have a cheap pair of champion ear protection muffs… upgraded after that.

I remove the choke and shoot .410 slugs. 38 Special/357 magnum 44 magnum Had a 22, but sold it. Would like to get a .223/5.56 barrel for it.

I have a .22 RF “Match chamber” barrel for my Contender that sure makes the best of 22RF ammo.

I just had the standard barrel and it was boringly accurate. You must shoot at long range to tell the difference.

Sums up my Colt 6920 Socom with an ACOG… at 100 yards, every egg perched on a branch dies with fast shooting. At $7.00 a dozen lately, the eggs are now safe. Never had the need to stretch it out further.

Probably not a loud as your snubbie, but when I shoot it at the range, everyone else stops shooting and wants to know what the hell I'm shooting. Thank you for this! Brought back a memory. It was a CVA Navy colt that did this, but it was at the range in San Diego in 1989. This range is controlled by the SDPD and is a pistol-only range. The only other guy there was shooting a target .22 of some kind. I gave the usual nod and began the arduous process of loading my .36 caliber cap and ball revolver as he steadily snapped away with his .22 autoloader. When I finally got ready to fire, I picked my revolver up from the bench on the line and cocked it, slowly firing all six chambers. BOOM! it would resound as each BP charge went off. The guy with the .22 was cleaning up and leaving as I fired the last round. I guess he didn't like a gun that actually makes a BOOM! instead of a pop! (Don't get me wrong, I love .22s. It was just funny how this guy was chased off a range because my slow cap and ball revolver was so loud)

C&S will do you right, Bob! But you already knew that… Congratulations on the new family member. Right. I once had a Grande Puissance Pro— the old target model with extended bbl and bbl weight and adjustable sights. The safety was so tiny it was a joke, so I ordered one from C&S. In those days Laughridge included a little note with his stuff: “Trouble? Call me.” His replacement safety defeated me so I called him. Nice guy. Finally just said “Send it to me.” I did. Had it back in about a week with the safety installed AND a complimentary trigger job. Original HPs bit the web of my hand something fierce and I finally sold that pistol to a friend who lusted after it. Also had six C&S tuned magazines for it which I am sorry now I threw in with the pistol.

C&S will do you right, Bob! But you already knew that… Congratulations on the new family member. Charlie, chatted with C&S today. They were apologetic as their 2-year backlog requires that they take no new work. Not a big problem. There are other places and before I send it off anywhere I want to wring it out pretty well and figger out what it needs.

Made it out with the 44, my new SIG and the CZ75. All three are satisfyingly accurate and reliable. We had weather in the 50’s and a slight breeze. A good day. Now for some lunch, a pipe and a whiskey!

I purchased new, some years back, a Ruger Vaquero. The original heavy frame model in stainless steel. It was a lovely gun except for the admonition depicted above stamped on the barrel. I was so irritated by it I ground it off. Yes, that defaces the gun. There are some things I will not accept and that is one of them.

I don't think my old 77 had it. On my Blackhawk it's on the underside of the barrel.

I was winging it, Ron, so I guess I was lucky to not have an negligent discharge. I was shooting a 700X load. I forget how much. I run my velocity around 900 fps. And you are correct on my bullet choice.
