I had an unfortunate encounter with a mentally disturbed individual while at the supermarket in town this week. Aggressive and belligerent for no reason I can figure. He was waiting for me when I emerged with cart and groceries. I was able to stare him down. The day before, a senior citizen was shot in the parking lot by a kid with a gun wanting to lift his wallet. So, I guess it is time for me to renew the CCW permit. I have to take the class again and have contacted the one and only state approved instructor living in Taos County. Planning on using one of my two Colt .38 Specials for the range qualification. They are both suitable carry pieces but prefer the old Cobra. I had a similar encounter several years ago with some nutter who was enraged I was riding a bicycle and followed me into Target. Stay safe out there, John. I had a run in with an idiot in a pickup while riding my road bike to work in Houston. The guy didn't expect the bearded monster with the bicycle chain and lock that came out of the ditch. I'm pretty sure he never messed with bicycles again.

New revolver from Diamondback Firearms being introduced at Shot Show. Looks like Diamondback is making a move.

I had a Colt Lawman, 2 inch, .357. That was a handful. Not sorry I sold it.
For me, three or four inch and a full grip if shooting magnums rounds.

My 686 Customs Service is heavy enough but there is a good bit of blast with hot 357s. It’s a pansy-cat with 38s, even +P+.

I want more weight and at least a 3” barrel. I had an SP-101 in .357. I once shot some 180 grain Corbon rounds in it. 1200 fps. That combo actually blistered the web of my hand after the first five. The next five peeled skin off. I was into self-abuse at the time. I can imagine just how awful one of the alloy J-frames in .357 would be. Nope. I had a 686 with a four inch barrel. It was sweet to shoot. Pachmayr grips. Later on, a six inch, also a sweet shooter.

S&W hit a homerun with the L-frames. That was back when they listened to people.

I shot it once it felt like a bomb going off in your hand one of the few times I didn't have fun shooting it hurt so bad.

That said, I will probably replace the factory grips at some point. They don't really suit my hand all that terribly well, and I'm not getting any younger. I just hate to give up that classic, walnut-and-blued-steel look.

I’m sure you could find some nice custom walnut grips that would fit your hand better. And look better too!!

Your might be better off handing your snub nosed .44 magnum to Reacher and let him to it. Just a thought.

I’m a fan of 44 Special. Pretty soft shooting in a GP100. You can always load them pretty hot if you feel the need. I run a 255gr lead Keith-style slug at 850fps. It’ll do.

Me as well.
I had a lovely Model 1926 Smith & Wesson, 4 inch. Sadly, it was stolen in 2005.
For my Ruger Redhawk with a 5.5 inch barrel, I was able to get hold of .44 mag reloads at around Special specs with 240 grain lead semi-wadcutter bullets. Pleasant to shoot. I prefer the full length cartridge and not "hammering" the forcing cone. Not that it matters much in a Ruger.

I miked my cylinder on the Blackhawk are all exactly 431, which is unusual. I got a tool to chamfer the forcing cone to 11 degrees on both 44s. The Rossi cylinder runs 430-431. The Rossi snubbie is really sweet to shoot.

I haven’t measured the cylinder on either of my 44s, but now I have a mission tonight. I will report back with the details.

I measured the mouths of the chambers on my GP100. They come in at .4285
I’ll check the Uberti SAA tomorrow. My GP is very, very accurate.

.429 groove diameter. I have heard of people opening the chambers up to .430, but it is working fine as it is.
