Nah.....back to the regularly scheduled discussion
I think one of my favorite revolvers is my S&W K-frame 22LR. When 22 ammo was less than a penny/round I shot countless thousands through it.
Stainless Ruger Super Redhawk 44 Mag for deer hunting
Colt Trooper .357 Mag for protection at the cabin
38 snub-nose for protection at home, along with Glock 26 with laser.
I love how you can change a revolver by simply putting different grips on it!
I have a Ruger New Model Blackhawk 44 Special flattop that has a terrible grip. I just ordered a custom set last night from Texas Grips. Birdseye maple oversized. It's a heavy gun, but the grip is sized for a 22 and makes it hard to support the gun just to aim. I am hoping that it completely changes the gun. This 44Mag kicks hard but it doesn't roll my wrist backwards which is what kills your second chance shots. The scope probably helps keep it on plane but the grip made all the difference in the world.

That's nice, but it would look awful on the Blackhawk. Different kinds of guns for different purposes. I have that grip on the 44 Mag snubbie.

Anyone else on here ever have the BFR revolver in .45-70? That was an absolute hoot to shoot, but I could never find an acceptable way to carry it when actually in the bush.

It is me who? What do you mean? My business takes a lot of my time. I customize 1911’s and have been since 1978, so I know what revolvers/pistols I enjoy customizing and shooting. I’ve been called Ted on here, I’m not him. Seems there is a clique within this forum, which I’m not into. This was my first, now my last pipe forum. you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

I am coming into this discussion late so if my comments are repetitious... you will just have to deal with it. Sorry! I still prefer a revolver to all autoloaders except the 1911. I only have two now, sadly. One blued Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum, 5.5 inch barrel and a Colt Cobra .38 Special made in 1964. That about covers my needs.
Not more than a day passes when I think of my collection which I sold years ago. I mostly miss my Model 1917 Smith & Wesson and a Colt New Service in .45 Colt. They both just fit perfectly in my hand.
I have handled those and they sure felt good in my hand. Always wanted the Colt, but the prices always stayed a few hundred dollars ahead of my finances. Years ago when I found them at pawn shops and mom/pop gun shops, they were not expensive. No one seemed to appreciate those old timers. Magnums were all the rage. Today, as you wrote, prices have risen some. LOL!

There is a whole genre of hunters out there who have hunted with rifles so much, there is no challenge anymore. They hunt exclusively with handguns now. Between big game handgun hunting and needing to stop really really large bears trying to eat you, giant revolvers have carved out quite a successful niche.

I have such low hunting vs finding ratio that I certainly don't need more of a challenge. My 44 Special would kill anything within a thousand miles. And my Winchester carbine weighs less than a 500 Smith. Not saying that I can't see it, but it's not for me. If I go where the big bears are, I'll stay behind you. 😁😎🤠

I have a little Ruger American rifle in 7.62x39 that is very handy afield. It is what goes with me when I am out in the desert in the middle of nowhere. If I have to walk far it stays in the truck and I carry a pistol. That's what the Ruger GP100 in 44 Special, that I started this thread is intended for. I often have carried a Glock 19 when out in the boonies and felt well armed.

My Virginia Dragoon in .44mag. It has a very tight, smooth action and great accuracy. I bought it like-new-in-box with the original box and all of the original paperwork. If that doesn't do it, I can bring out the Springfield Operator TRP with the .460 Rowland conversion and elk horn grips.

Nice! I like the grips on the Dragoon. I intended to build a 460 Rowland for the last 10 years. I still think I will if I ever get my shop finished. I don't even have a place to clean my guns at the moment.

Such a classic looking revolver Dewayne, how can any red blooded male not appreciate it...and the Springfield TRP needs no introduction either. Off topic for a revolver thread, but I pickup and deliver to these guys regularly...the armorers are the nicest people you could ever meet, and they promise to give me a smokin deal when I pull the trigger, and they will do a full house custom job at reduced prices. Not sure which Dan Wesson I am going to get.czcustom.com/czcustom.com/new-firearms/dan-wesson-factory-guns.html

I had forgotten all about it until I saw the name. Man, they were fine guns that never got the respect they deserved. The ultimate revolver.

Hahaha!
Watching Rockford Files and Jim just put 2 rounds into a Cessna with what looked like a .357 with a 3" barrel. The plane made a crash landing and exploded... That beats Rambo taking out a Huey with a rock in First Blood.

Bigwoolie...that is one fine looking revolver...Buntline Special looking! Had an 8" S&W 357 many moons ago...sold it or it was stolen, I don't remember which as I've had both occurrences happen...much like Ron P. of RdPipes.

I've only had one gun stolen so far, a 22 single shot that my uncle gave me in 1962. It was made before the Japanese got into making quality stuff. I polished the action and refinished the stock and I cherished it. I could shoot it pretty well in spite of the front sight being at 11 o'clock. Burglars got it from under my bed. They also got my senior ring.

In the probably 300+ nights I have spent camping over the years, I have never had an issue with a bear or cougar. In Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico and South Dakota. Have only had a couple of instances with two legged varmints, where I thought I might have to draw on someone. On the other hand, I have seen flash floods, blizzards, heat, lightning and terrain injure and kill people. Fortunately no one I have ever been out with has ever had more than minor injuries or heat exhaustion to deal with. Have seen some fatalities from falls being recovered or extracted a couple of times. I have had several close calls with lightning. It scares me way more than any living thing.

So, I got to take my new 44 Special out yesterday. I load my own cartridges. I had 200 gr lead bullets loaded to about a 900 fps level. Was so excited to see how the GP would shoot. Click. No bang. Click again. Could my primers be too hard? I use Winchester primers which are kind of hard. I opened the cylinder and checked the primers for light strikes. Not a mark on them. Emptied out the cartridges and looked at the breach face and under the hammer. It is hard to see unless you are really looking, but there is no firing pin in my gun! So, back to Cabelas today. They told me they don't actually have a gunsmith look them over. I was surprised that they missed it when it was traded in or when they bought it. I am guessing the original owner dumped it after it broke, or maybe it never had one? Anyway, they are sending it off to Ruger. No 44 for a couple of months, probably. On a positive note, my S&W Model 52 that I picked up in May, shot like no pistol I have ever owned. What a soft shooting, super accurate handgun!
