A newbie question. I have cleaned both a briar and a cob with alcohol soaked pipes cleaners & Q- tips. It seems to be a good cleaning with the cleaners starting out black then slowly turning white again. My question is: is it a safe thing to do for my briars & cobs? Thank you 🧙🏼♂️

I guess my question is What kind of alcohol are you talking about? I use "Everclear" for cleaning. It is 151 proof and I have had no problems with it.

Drink as much alcohol as you want when cleaning your pipes. Err wait, I read the title wrong I think.
Good to go on Briars and Cobs. Meerschaum is iffy.

What Walt ( pepesdad1) said above. I have used cognac on my briar pipes for years. I do not want anything in my pipe that I would not put directly in my mouth. And I generally take a bit internally when I clean pipes just because I can.

Meerschaum is iffy. That is the conventional wisdom, but for myself if I use moistened pipe cleaner, not dripping and do a quick in and out through the airway, it is a sure way to clean things up, not necessary or advised in the Meerschaum bowl...But, I have lightly swabbed a Meer bowl with an Everclear moistened paper towel. If you use Everclear, this is a nice option as alcohol drips on a finish can remove the wax on the exterior be it Briar or Meerschaum, and Everclear is no friend to Ebonite/ Vulcanite. thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2331/handy-option-everclear-application

I used Everclear for cleaning my pipes. Alcohol is an excellent solvent. At 190 proof, some care is indicated. Everclear dries quickly but watch out for the liquid!

So until I can buy some everclear 190%, I assume I am not damaging my pipes. Is that right? 🧙🏼♂️

I bought a bottle of Everclear at a grocery store awhile back, an older guy that was dressed far nicer than the job was generally done, bagged my bottle of Everclear for me as the cashier rung me up.
He looked at the bottle, then at me... his face said it all “You loser!”. 😝
Had I been thinking quickly, I would have said “Best bang for the brain”.

I don’t drink alcohol, but if I did, it would be a nice wine. I have tried some wines & liked them many years ago, but it made me act a bit nutty/crazy so I don’t drink it. lol 😜🤪🧙🏼♂️
