Moose Jaw pancakes. These were good. None of those goofy spices or flavorings just whole wheat and leavening. I added an egg and buttermilk. Came out tasty and substantial.

I'm not one of those who can arise and throw themselves right away into a real breakfast. Usually I'll just have a piece of toast or a ciabatta (followed by a bowl!) and then make something about mid-morning, sometimes even as late as lunchtime. One of my recent standards is... two corn tortillas, halved, toasted, and lightly buttered. Three or four thin slices of summer sausage grilled crisp, with two fried eggs. Wash it down with some sweet tea.

Went shopping today, USDA choice 109 ribs (bone in) are $4.00 a pound, we picked up 2 20#’s one for a New Years roast, the other one to carve for steaks and ribs.
USDA choice eye of rounds are the same price so we got 2-6 pounders.
NY strips are the same price, but my freezer space is limited.
All the beef is from IBP’s Amarillo facility that has long been the choice for restauranteurs to source their beef.
All the meat has nice marbling.
The downside for ranchers from coronavirus, is an upside for the consumer.

Meats prices around here run the gambit with hamburger being higher than steak. We like to use a good butcher up the road so we know where the cows come from ribeye 9.bone in prime rib 12. NY strip 8.00 sirloin 6.. Unlike Kroger meat you get what you pay for as cooking loss is very little.

Friend just brought me about 70# of mulie venison, 20 or so pounds made into breakfast sausage. Puts me somewhere around 250# of wild game in the freezers— which ain’t got much room left!

I dunno, I was in the wholesale meat business for eight years, and IBP beef has always had a good reputation, and the final yield has always been good. Unless your local butcher is in cattle country and has his own kill plant, there is a good chance that he is getting his beef from IBP, Sterling, Washington Beef, National Beef Packers etc...Regardless, USDA choice, is USDA choice, and it isn’t unusual to see Certified Angus Beef being sold as discounted Choice. Not sure about Kroger, I generally shop at Albertson’s. $4 a pound versus $12 is quite a wide margin for 109 rib.

A burger patty with crushed potato chips, egg, matzo meal. Acorn Squash. The sweet potato turned out to be a Yam, I think. Very pale. I will eat some later as a snack.

Busy day starting the Christmas Eve prep. Started soaking the baccala (salted cod). This will soak for 3 days, changing the water 4 or 5 times a day. To prep, it will get boiled, then half turned into patties with bread crumbs that will get fried, and the other half will be marinated with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice. Then I made our baked carbonara dish, mingatz. This is batch #2 this season. I gave most of the previous away, while consuming a fair amount myself. Dinner tonight was supposed to be steaks, but picking at this while cooking, and a bowl of it to test before it went in the oven forced me to postpone the steaks until tomorrow.

I had a friend who made Baccala. With a light tomato sauce, served on polenta. Excellent. Tomato, celery greens, bell pepper.

As mentioned before to another gentleman, I’ve gain weight every time I venture into this thread! By the way, perhaps we need a “Weight Watchers” thread from “What are you Eating” in January?
