Or it could be my daddy married his sister but it didn't effect me none syndrome. Hold my beer. Watch this. Most states show Jimmy Cricket pictures in school to young'uns and it really helps in the I am no fool department. But I digress.

When there is a concentration of petro-chemical processing/refining there will be accidents. It is inevitable. I have a friend, an Industrial Hygienist or Safety Expert for Exxon. He is the most nervous guy I know.

Yeah, when we bought this house we actually paid attention to the surrounding areas. Most dangerous thing around us is the airport 3 miles away. If a plane crashes on us our number was up anyway. There was a plant fire 7 miles away that burned after Harvey, but it didn't bother us.

In a previous post I told of the night late Sixties my Control Center was blown to the ground by an Ethylene trailer , we had a loading rack across the Control Center and they surmise a hot wheel bearing on trailer cooked it off, it was like the old Alka Seltzer commercial when everything gets bigger and bigger then BOOM! I wound up coke machine on top of me, another co worker was deeply cut by steel door, what saved his life was he was in the doorway, anywhere else it would have cut him in two. I tourniqueted his cut with my jacket, brought him down the road where Amblanuce took him. Went back with crew from another unit, shut it down as best as we could. Limped to the other control center, coke machine he did a job on me, never noticed till adrilanie wore down, got a cup of coffee, bumbed a cig, went to smoking bench, Night Super in his car saw me smoking and told me to put the cig out, I told him a Big F**K You, old man was lucky he didn’t get out of the car, he would have got a bad asswhipping.

I am dropping 40,000 pounds of acid tomorrow, I think I probably have a forum record in that regard.
You will likely feel much better once that is over with tomorrow.
The next morning I took Lyft back to the truck and decided to look in the trailer before pulling onto company property....when I had put the straps on the barrels they were so tight you could play a tune on them. When I opened the doors, the straps were sagging down laying on the floor, still latched into the e-track. nothing shifted fortunately, because the shipper banded for drums to each pallet....it could have been a big problem, and had I gotten inspected by the DOT, it would have resulted in a ticket and fine. I am breaking out the company credit card and this is the only way I am rolling in the future...e-track loading bars.

I hear you Charlie, you got to checky , checky, looky, looky, all the time. A oil field boss asked me why my load did look nice and tight, flat straps, mine were twisted, my response nice and flat flaps in the wind and loosens up, twist straps, stay tight.!

I installed them at pickup, checked at a fuel stop and headed into LA.... you just cannot trust the ratchet/ cam on some of the straps.... they appear functional... all made in China.

I remember getting in big trouble years ago for buying a lifting chain that was over 100 dollars. That was when you could buy a load chain for 20 dollars. I told my boss a load chain is not a lifting chain and a lawyer will know the difference. I think he is still grumbling and the last time I went by his yard he had a rack of lifting chains painted red and sign saying these are not binder chains so hands off. We almost killed a guy by rolling a 10000 gallon tank over him because a cable was left hooked up to a loader and a driver did not do a walk around. OSHA went over the whole yard with a fine tooth comb. I had a safety program in place with weekly meetings that everyone hated and only the best hard hats, glasses, etc. He called me in his office and he said You saved my arse fat boy and he handed me a big wad of cash and told me to take a week off with pay.

Yep Sean, when we lifted the rotor out of Gas turbine during turnaround, we only used Alloy Grade 100 chain. That’s when I learned all chain is not the same.

Safety programs are the bane of any management / work force UNTIL they prevent a lawsuit. I worked in a plastics manufacturing place making among other things, braided airline. (Like what you use on a portable compressor) Our braiding machines were literally turn of the century machines converted to use electric motors. The drive gear for the line feed was exposed. It turned so slowly none of us thought anything of it. That is until the damned thing tried to eat my hand one night while I was clearing a jam on a braider. Thankfully it moved so slowly that I was able to hit the emergency stop before it had any more than a good chunk of the skin on my left hand at the little finger. I got a trip to the ER, and the rest of the night off. When I showed up at work the next day all the braiders had new safety covers on the gears, and a sheet metal skirt around the base of the platform where one could get at the fast moving parts. I'm pretty sure that little accident cost them an OSHA fine.

I was also a safety manager at a big repair facility. I implemented safety glasses and when on the floor would tell guys please put you safety glasses on. By the end of the year I thought my name was FU.

I just finished installing an OEM trailer brake controller in my new to me Ram. Son - of - a - BITCH! I had to pull the console and dash apart and still couldn't get to all the screws to mount the bracket! One screw and a couple of layers of Gorilla Tape. Now I have to take it to the dealer to get the computer codes put in to make it work. Nap time!

Did a little bit of work on the truck today, helped my daughter with her taxes, took Shweetie on an errand, visited an antique book store... Im so ready for spring already. Not much colt work / riding this time of year, and I'm gettin' restless. Started to drag my saddle out and oil it...again. Decided it was a waste of time, it's already well oiled.
I do have a line on a new performance-bred filly south of here I'm going to go look at in March, but even that has to wait.
February is gonna be a long month.

By the end of the year I thought my name was FU. Yeah....a production worker has some serious street cred when doing so...until while running a wire wheel, a stray wire javelin's itself into his pupil...then he is known as "one eyed jack". I was watching two guys in Vernon Ca. working on a project on a new build, one ran a handheld concrete cutting blade, the other was using a handheld grinder...neither had eye protection. Meanwhile, I was on the other side of the fence...hardhat...check...safety vest...check. Steel toed boots....check Safety Glasses....check.....Long sleeve shirt...NO. I had to stay in the cab of the truck....since I was not involved in loading or unloading of the product, or extracting samples...there wasn't a chance in China that I was going to be exposed to danger. For what it's worth... I ordered uniforms from Cintas requesting long sleeve, but they gave me short sleeve.

Yep in Exxon Long sleeve Cotton shirts, then they outlawed metal hard hats, didn't like the plastic ones. Steel toed shoes Exxon paid 1/2 on them, new guys abused the perk so only 2 per year, ear plugs required, old Cajun talking to you didn't wear them because he couldn't hear the plant sounds of a bad pump or equipment he's now hard of hearing, wife fusses he can't hear, only perk. Safety glasses, gloves by the pallet full, back then they cost, contractors were strapped, as a working man I ordered couple pallets and they conviently got lost around their shacks, they appreciated it and worked good for me. Little grease goes a long way.

Yeah...my boss told me that my company credit card resets every month at $7.5 K..."Buy anything you need, I don't hire kids...if you need anything just buy as if you were the owner and exercise judgment in that regard....don't call me and tell me "I am broke down", the credit card can take care of that. If it is a repair of several thousands call me I have the big CC, and saves your monthly expense". That is a far cry from being a Teamster...I turned in a receipt for $15.00 to have a key cut and submitted a receipt for re-reimbursement. I was called into the office by the terminal manager and he told me why he didn't want to set a precedent by my actions causing everyone else to have a land rush to key cutters.... I milked an hour out of that conversation on overtime... jumping over dollars to save dimes. To be fair...freight compared to what I do now is very different...razor thin margins in freight, a very different situation now.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day.
My elderly neighbor lady, a Silesian German immigrant had too much Polish blood to remain a citizen of the German Reich. So, she was sent to a camp in a box car with corpses. Not a great childhood. Rest her soul, she went to Glory last year and hopefully finally found peace.
That Holocaust thingy takes on an entirely different meaning when one knows a victim.

Back in the sixties I worked with a Jewish fella who was rescued from a work camp.He still had the identification numbers tattooed on his arm.I won't go into details of what he told me..How he was treated though was totally inhuman..

The little Baptist church here has a "Food Pantry" once a month where they give out donated food to those in need in the community. The donated food comes from a city about 40 miles south of here. I told them I would use my truck to go pick stuff up for them today. I'm being completely selfish about it. It will give me something to do, and since I can't smoke inside of our current living quarters, it'll give me 2 opportunities to enjoy a pipe in the warmth of my truck.

today has been crazy. hubby stayed home sick. i went over to Mom's to get her bank deposit and grocery list but she wasn't there, I couldn't the deposit, but her grocery list and debit card was sitting out, so hubby and I went to walmart. he decided he wanted veggie beef soup, so had to get all the fixings, and then he was hungry so we had to eat at Subway (I'm beginning to feel like I'm in that children's book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie....) We get home, unload the car and give Mom her groceries. I go home and cut up the meat and get it started simmering in the skillet. Halfway through that my son comes over to tell me that Mom needs me to pick up her prescriptions, and I'm like, why wasn't that on the list??? Sigh. So once the meat is done and in the crockpot I go over and get her card again and head up to Walmart. I figured since I was going back I would pay my water bill. well, there was a line. Got my bill paid, picked up an envelope and went to the pharmacy, it was closed for lunch. Waited about 10 minutes and then there was a line at the window. Got her meds, put gas in the car and then came home. Gave her the bag and she says that isn't all of it. I tell her sort it out and I will go back tomorrow. Ugh.

Well, Gee Whiz, It is snowing! Who would have thought that possible?
After the chores and a nap, spent most of the day seated by the wood stove with a NY Times Crossword Puzzle. Oh, made up some more bread dough. Going to let that ferment a long time.
