Well, we just got word that my dad is back in the hospital. I've got some time off next month and I'm hoping all stays well until I can get back home. This year is turning out "stellar" … not. Sorry to hear that Darin, I will pray that he recovers his health. Does he live in Illinois?
Thank you, Charlie … much appreciated. We just got word today that he should be released back to home tomorrow.
He does live in Illinois and I've got time off next month to go back there for a visit. With ever worsening CHF, among other things, it's going to be a steady decline and I just hope it's not too fast.

97 F, gusty winds, and 7% humidity today. Might not be a good day for a cigar outside.

Another beautiful day here in NE Texas. Not much energy today. I got the rest of the screws in the ramp and put the trike in the barn, installed an window AC in the barn and put up shelf brackets in the pantry.

Nice lunch, new throw rug for the dog, new pair of fancy underwear with a smart arse saying on the backside and stinky wax melts. Sunshine and clear skies.

Temperatures finally ramping down here in Northern California. I am really looking forward to the end of fire season. Don't know what next year will bring, but we'll take it one at a time.

Aren't y'all running out of fuel? That's over 6 million acres burned in 2 years. The State's got over 5.5 million acres of national forest. Much of it can not be easily reached. Kind of makes you wonder why the fires are in areas near cities and towns and not in those hard to reach locations.

Bit late to the party here after crazy busy days. Sorry to hear about your dad, Darin, and good grief oldcajun123... I'm glad you're OK. Kate is dosed with the cold or maybe flu. Thankfully no covid symptoms so hopefully we've dodged that bullet.

Trying to get Nook app to work on a reader. The Nook android app is broke and Barnes and Noble broke it. It has been broke for two months since they updated it. The wife now has a new tablet and tablet with a red line across it and no e-reader. Somewhere there is a real IT pro retired on a beach replaced by a guy in India who reads from a book on customer service and tells me his name is Bob. Modern World Problems.

I hope I am wrong, but if that is the case, that is truly evil.

I emailed the boss in Idaho today with my intent to resign email.
The money is good, benefits and fringe benefits excellent, but I am done with going to California, working 14 hours each day, having a hard time trying to find a hotel that has truck parking. Recently a vagrant got past security and pulled a fire alarm at 3 AM which took 4 hours to get a technician to disable it. Nothing in California gets thrown away due to Covid scares, it is all considered hazardous waste if someone returns a product to stores that stupidly accept all returns.
9 months ago we were told that we would double business over the next two years, 6 months ago the higher ups put a hiring freeze on when we were all working 60+ hours in the middle of Covid maggedon.
On Thursday, I ran out of containers in Carlsbad Ca. and called the dispatcher:
"I guess you will have to go to Fontana and stay another day to service the last two accounts."
Carlsbad to Fontana in rush hour and returning in the LA basin is no picnic.
I told him "Like hell I will, I understand that you are in a pressure pot, with upper management and customers needing service, but this cat is spent."
I had 11 cubic yard boxes, 20 drums and about 30 cartons ranging from 55 to 10 gallon boxes...all in a 27' van.
I drove back to Phoenix...and still had a 12 hour day just unloading the stuff onto a 10 day trailer...I will spare the details, but there is a lot of physical and mental work involved just in that. Hauling hazardous waste is the most heavily regulated form of transportation and the feds take no prisoners on it.
Had I went to Fontana, I would have ran over the 70 hour limit and my 36 hour reset for weekend would have been spent in Yuma, I would have gotten back in time to load up and go again.
The Hilton Garden Inn in Yuma is pretty nice, has a great bar, great restaurant and a nice pool, but I had a pipe club meeting to attend and missed my honey.
I say all this to say that my boss in Idaho is a great guy, and I really hate leaving him in a lurch. We lost three guys (Techs) due to covid in Fontana, a father and son died, and the other son is unable to return because of breathing issues. But, had the company not instituted the hiring freeze, it would have mitigated a lot of nonsense, time for me to move on. Having a pension check that rolls in allows one to exercise options, (and no debt) that otherwise would not be available.

It's been quite the bumpy road since you started with them, Charlie. I'm sorry to hear it turned out the way it did but glad you are moving on. Any company would be blessed to have you but I hope you take some much needed R&R soon.

Loading the truck this afternoon with saddles, guns, cigars, pipes and maybe a clean shirt. Headed to Idaho early in the morning with Will to spend the week with my boys and grandbabies while Shweetie holds down the fort.
Im really looking forward to this. Will's 19th birthday is on Wednesday, so its gonna be all kinds of a guys' week out. (In all things moral, of course) 😊😎
Saturday, on the way home, we'll be stopping in Lewiston,ID. They have 2 tractor trailer loads of new, young rodeo bucking horses, and they've invited Will to come and help buck 'em out, to see which ones will make the grade. I reckon I'll just spectate for that. 😁

Thanks, Darin. I just got approved for a 4 day weekend for my birthday 10/30-11/2, for the cancelled West Coast Pipe Show, but if a new employer doesn't take me on, I think we are going to fly somewhere to see the fall colors. I am surely not driving anywhere.

He went into the Marine Corps, went through boot camp and came out with the neck of a horse. Then he went to advanced combat training, came home and wanted us to spar. I raced to scripture for an answer. "Son...it is time to put away childish things!" I selectively misapplied scripture as I quoted the bolded part, but it saved me from mayhem.
