Got a phone call from the wife this morning. She was baby sitting our grandson at my daughters house. He's about 1.5 years old. He locked himself in the master bedroom. This door doesn't have the little hole in the doorknob to unlock it. I had to go over and slip the latch with a credit card. Lucky the wife didn't call the fire department for help. She was in a bit of a panic. The little guy just smiled when we opened the door. He didn't think anything was wrong. Nice work! I'm glad you were able to rescue the little guy so quickly and didn't have to go to any greater lengths to extricate your grandson from the bedroom! This happened to my wife with our first daughter when she was around 2 while I was at work. Our bedroom door had a keyed lock (we were never given the key) on it when we bought the house - thought it odd but didn't think much more about it. Somehow my daughter locked herself in and couldn't unlock the door. My wife knew the window was unlocked so she got my ladder out and climbed up to the second story through the window. Needless to say, on the way home from I stopped for a new door knob and latch!

No pipes for the last few days; my throat is so sore that I couldn't talk at all yesterday. It's crazy I know ,but I didn't sleep a wink Thursday night for the thoughts of throat cancer running through my head. I've been a study pipe smoker for Forty years so it's a chance you live with ,but push to the back of your mind. Funny thing is, one of my biggest worries seems to be giving up the almost 200 old friends in my pipe-racks, they're part of who I am...
Feeling much better today. Voice is returned somewhat...likely just due to the change in the weather, but it's hard to control the direction your thoughts take.

After recurrent pneumonia, I had to quit. There is not a day I do not look at my pipes and sniff my tobacco wondering if I shall ever fire up again. The pandemic contributes to my fear........

I got the same worries a few years ago before I found out I had globus pharangius (or something like that). I thought it was just my luck to get throat cancer when I only smoke a pipe on average about 4-5 times a month. I'm glad you're throat is feeling better.

I keep a “get home” bag in my truck, it goes everywhere with me. I finally got my load out changed over to winter today.

It was in the high 30s to low 40s today. Managed to get out for 18 holes. Beautiful day, sun was shining, had a bowl of Solani’s Sweet Mystery X and my hip flask to keep me warm. 😁🏌️♂️🥃

That's why I like disc golf no fees and it is harder than golf. Went to the grocer and got dragged in to a shoe store by the wife. Wife walked to the new pizza truck parked down the street and grabbed us some pie. Lifestyles of the poor and unknown.

In the car at church. You park in rows, then when the priest comes out you set your radio to certain channel. Then as you drive out you roll down your window to get the communion. The new Covid church, who would thunk it. 😀

Afternoon all. Been a busy weekend. 2 friends from our quaran-team over on Friday for drinks, dinner, and chat. Then yesterday evening was the very much abbreviated version of our yearly ThanksMas Party. Traditionally it's around 50 people in and out through the night. Last night was just 6 of us total. We enjoyed a nice intimate dinner, and drinks and singing/listening to Christmas music after. This morning was some final cleanup from the weekend inside, and this afternoon I got the yard squared away for the winter.

Justin, Considering the times we live in and the seemingly upside down world on many levels, I can imagine a 6 guest get together was better than 50 people.

Got out again for another 18 holes. My buddy gifted me the Cuban Hoyo No.2 in Robusto. Played some golf, smoked a Cuban on Smuggled in Sunday and had a bowl of St. James flake. A pretty good day!👍😁🏌️♂️

It was a bit bittersweet though. I love Christmas, and our ThanksMas party is the high point of the year for me. Weeks of planning, shopping, and prepping usually, but so worth it to bring all our friends together.
That being said, I totally agree with you, Charlie. It was actually kind of nice having a small intimate gathering and actually being able to do a sit down dinner together. I'm thankful either way.

I have not shared a meal with anyone since late last summer. I hardly even seen anyone except at the supermarket and walmart.

My old company used to have a big Christmas party every year at a high end restaurant for big bucks. One year he hired a cruise ship just for us, and another he took everyone to the casino in Lake Charles and gave each family 200 dollars to play with. This year he is bringing in food trucks to the company parking lot.

That was the 1970s and 1980s, into the early the early 1990s. They had them but for the executives, I guess. I recall Bank of America in the early 1970s. Nothing but a $25 bonus. LOL!

Most of the people who have been there for 20 years or more make a good salary and twice as much in profit sharing. You have a family emergency, just go. We'll cover you and your salary will continue as long as you need it. Plus Christmas bonuses. My last couple of bonuses were over $15k. If I had stayed I would have received $50k this year in a Christmas bonus, plus over $100k in profit sharing. The COO is a woman who started working there as a receptionist when she was 17 and a single mother.

It was not a question of revenue, just accountability and integrity. Too many assholes. It has shaped my political views about wealth and taxation which we need not go into here.

Forecast is for cold, rain and snow in the Sierras next week. Tree is up, lights are on, fire is lit, but not as exciting knowing I'm not having the whole family in for the holidays this season. It'll be quiet. Everybody is in COVID isolation. I'm just going to be thankful they are all healthy. I still picked up a few malts. Just sipping and smoking my pipe alone. I pray you all are safe and COVID free.

We are told not to take Christmas off no holiday pay no overtime. No thank you no nothing. You take the holiday off you are fired! They blocked the 23rd 24th and 25th out this year. We can not use our personal leave days during those days. That is why train crews have nothing polite to say about Union Pacific. So I am glad some companies still treat thier employees well. Hope you all work for one of the good ones or are retired.

I am glad that I am collecting a pension and have a 401k that I can live off while choosing to work. It adds a lot of flexibility.
I have an interview tomorrow with a great company that I am familiar with, so I think things are looking good going forward

Sure hope the company you work for treats their employees well and with respect.
