Been keeping myself busy around the house. Had a few nice days and got the yard in shape and some exterior repair to the house done. Got some projects in the shop done and started quite a few. Had a few jobs to do so I am keeping a little cash coming in through this. Other than that just trying to get through this down time and maintain my sanity what little is left ( didn't have much to begin with LOL). Hope everyone is staying safe and getting along the best they can.

It was 90 in SE Texas yesterday, thunder storms last night and cooler today. Had a couple of waterfalls coming off the roof last night. There is a retention pond for Bush Airport (IAH) that only has had water in it during Harvey and it was full this morning.

So Charlie, which engine, tranny and diffs are you running in that KW? My only experience with big trucks was an Autocar with a Hall Scott OHC I-6, Brownie Spicer 4/3 trannies and Timken Double Reduction rear end. I am a little out of date with new developments. Also, the place you want to stop is immediately out of the gorge. There is a rest stop, big area. Fantastic view of the Taos area and the mounatins with the Rio Grande Gorge running along. I have no idea on the engine tranny or rear end, I am so busy when I am at work all I care about is that all the fluid levels are good and that I am DOT compliant, I need to find out. The only good thing about them old trucks is when they are restored for nostalgic reasons...I drove them in the past, but driving them was like doing the epileptic dance behind the wheel. I did see the spot you mentioned, and in the future, I will probably take that picture, I really hope they don't send me through there in a blizzard, or dropping down from Cloudcroft into Alamagordo.

I guess it is the owner operators who I hear waxing proud with the details of their truck. I can understand that the one you drive holds no great pleasure for you.

The first contractor I worked for out of high school had Autocar and White trucks. They were very rustic and I was never was very good at driving them. They had the old school hoods that were hinged on the side.

At one end of the spectrum you have O/O's that spend as much as they make on the chrome and such and when they are not driving it, they are polishing it, working on it, and they have names for their trucks. At the far end of the other spectrum, there are guys that are animals and the cab is a pig sty, beat the hell out of the truck, couldn't change a wiper blade. I keep the truck clean inside and out, never abuse it, capable of doing minor repairs, but when I punch out at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about it and my weekends are with my family. I have driven trucks for years that are bought by fleet managers and serviced by company mechanics, there really is no need to know much other than what fluids I need and to look for problems on pretrip and post trip inspections. In the early years of my career, a driver owner of 5 Peterbilt's that ran beef from Yakima and produce back, advised me to never become an owner operator as it dominates your life, and more than likely end my marriage. He told me to get on with a oood company and a solid retirement plan...that was great advice then and good advice now. But now, I would be hesitant to encourage anyone to enter the field. I enjoy driving, I enjoy the truck I have, but I enjoy the end of the day more!

^^^^ That is some Sleeper Cab!! Looks like a Condo.
I remember when Sleeper Cabs consisted of two bunks beds behind the seats. LOL!! You were lucky to have a couple of small windows and a couple of vent doors.

I wish my truck had one of the really small sleepers, mainly for stowing a suitcase, and in a dire situation, sleep in the truck.
Some of them sleepers are pretty extravagant, on rigs like the fancy car haulers, them guys are really clean freaks, it works well considering their clientele.
My first truck was a 1972 COE International Transtar, you had to climb over the doghouse to get to the bunk, and the heat from the engine radiated up through the bunk, a sweltery situation in Southern California, so I always slept in a hotel.

Not doing much of anything today. Enjoying a lazy birthday. Waiting on my special dinner of pot roast, mashed potatoes, homemade biscuits and gravy and chocolate cake later.
I got offered a job this morning working on a poorly trained mare with a lot of issues for the next month. I think Im going to go pick her up this evening. Some welcome cash income and diversion.

I talked to an old guy today about the Coronavirus situation.
He said, “I used to cough to cover up my farts, now I fart to cover up my cough”
