The Boys
6/10
Interesting. Ultra-violent.
Garth Ennis's series was seriously grim and beautiful. The TV series just couldn't hold up.

M.O.D.O.K
5/10
Sort of a cross between Robot Chicken and Bojack Horseman.
I enjoyed it, but I didn't think about it after turning it off.

You're right about that series Ron, wife and I loved it, showed the personnel trails and tribulations of a mission you probably won't come back from. Canceled. No second season. Those trips to Mars are rough. Too intelligent for the American public I guess.

I am watching THE CROWN, a Netflix series. It is a chronicle of the reign of Elizabeth II. I am almost through the first year of the series and am finding it fascinating and very well-done. There are no clichés or fairy tales. No one will envy the “Royals” after watching this series. The confinement, the restrictions, the constant “duty”, all make for an almost intolerable lifestyle. I recommend this series for deep insights into the British system of government and the English constitution. If you don’t care about that, watch it for the cars. O, the cars!

We finally started watching Bosch and can't stop. I know, right? Found the series by accident and watched the six seasons in a couple days. Very addictive and wonderfully done!

After Bosch, found “El CID” on Amazon Prime. I was curious as I love the original movie starring Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. This is an all Spanish cast, in Spanish with English subtitles, and masterfully done. So far there are only two seasons and I’m hoping there will be more.

We enjoyed it but other shows caught our eye, and we stopped watching, we need to fix that. One thing that I thought was ridiculous was when Philip and Elizabeth were having a conversation alone in the bedroom, and he made a comment to her about “going down” on him, and they faded to black as she did so. I doubt that anyone is privy to the details of their sex life, and I doubt that either would say…. Unless when Philip was living out his frat boy years he mentioned it to a drinking buddy. I just thought it was needlessly inserted into the story line. The rest was quite good. I expect prince Harry and Megan to end up on a new Jerry Springer production soon.

Charlie— I too found that tasteless and hardly credible. But the only such note I have caught as yet. I just finished the first year and will be getting the rest and hoping the showrunners avoid such seedy temptations in the future.

I’m interspersing VERSAILLES with THE CROWN. It centers, so far, on Louis XIV’s effort to build the Palace as part of a plan to defeat the power of the nobility over the king. Production values, including cast, seem quite good in the first three episodes. One quote: “If history teaches us anything, it’s that awful things happen to kings.”
[Isn’t there a 2021 extension of this thread? Why are we still posting in 2020?]

Watching the original Route 66, it was one of them series I never saw as a kid, pretty good Rod Steiger plays a convincing narcissistic killer.

Watching Mrs Maisel on Prime. The first 3 seasons were great, but Season 4 isn't so good. Kinda like a cruise out of Miami with slightly less Yiddish.

There was an episode filmed just down the road a piece here in northern New Mexico. Worth watching. Called "Trap at Cordova". Season 1, episode 27. The great Thomas Gomez is a guest star. Humorous and still a current topic all these decades later. BTW, the village of Cordova looks about the same today as it did then. Some of it was also filmed in the neighboring villages of Chimayo and Truchas. Many local people in cast.

Funny you should mentioned that, a friend of mine just moved to Hernando Mississippi and one episode was shot in that town "a bunch of Lonely Pagliaccis" 1963. I texted him yesterday, and he was able to stream it, and looking at the landmarks and a trip back in time was a treat to him. But he told me..."we aren't on route 66?" I told him that they ran out of roads to travel.

Just saw a Route 66 Doc, where in New Mexico the highway hash marks sound out America the Beautiful at 45 mph, really cool.
