I have started lunting this month and I quite enjoy the calm. My favorite places to go lunting are quite often local trails. Also when I go fishing, and looking for new spots.
What favorite places do you like to go lunting?
Is there any place you would like to go lunting if you could?
I hope this thread hasn't been done before. If so please direct me to it.

There's a combination walking trail and physical training path that goes around the national guard base down the road aways. I've been known to take time during a drill and go for a gentle bit of lunting along the trail. The deer don't seem to mind so much.

I can't walk and smoke at the same time. There is a bench in front of the drugstore in Jefferson that needs me to be smoking a pipe on it.

I'm not going anywhere much, but do take an early morning walk around the neighborhood every day. Nice and quiet - no cars or other people. Just rabbits and deer.

Don't lunt.
Favorite place to smoke is on my back patio - on the south side of my house.
Usually pretty quiet even thought there's a road 30 feet away, behind a fence.
Patio is covered and a good sized Bradford Pear tree is due south only about 12 feet. Tree seems to keep the patio area cooler - like natural AC.

I can't do much with a pipe other than sit. I'll occasionally take a slow stroll with a cigar but I use my two, 3 mile walks a day to clean out my lungs. I waddle as fast as I can so I'm huffing and puffing trying to get some cardio exercise.  |

In Spring and early Summer, during the Mississippi River's high water stages, I like to walk on top of the river levee especially when I know one of the paddle wheel steam cruise riverboat's will be passing by. River boats like the Delta Queen and American Queen are fun to watch and I frequently hear their calliope's being played as they pass by. It's fun to think about Samuel Clemens traveling on old time paddle wheeler's smoking his pipe. I have found some interesting pieces of driftwood coming from who knows where since the Mississippi River watershed drains close to 2/3 of the lower 48 states. Sometimes I have chosen to then drive from my vantage point on the west side of the river to meet the riverboats at the landing area on the east side of the river at St. Francisville, La. where the paddlewheelers stop for land touring. I then get to watch passengers disembark while hearing the calliope landing serenade announcing to the town it has arrived. I also enjoy lunting walks on the trails amid the remaining fortifications at the Port Hudson State Historical Site on the east side of the Mississippi River, directly opposite from the site of my river levee luntings on the west side of the river. This is the site of the longest siege in American history during the Civil War. My tenant farming ancestors living just 4 miles away on the opposite west side of the river from Port Hudson were able to hear much of the heavy artillery battles during the Port Hudson siege from what I was told. (FYI-As tenant farmers they did not own and/or use any slave labor. They were at the mercy of large land owners for advancements on their crop harvests for much of each and every year and paid for those advancements and annual property rent at harvest time.) I would love to be able to go lunting at many historic sites such as Old Williamsburg, Va., Mount Vernon, West Point, N.Y., and other historic places. |

It certainly sounds like Swampgrizzly has the right notion of what a righteous lunt is all about!
Here in the valley of the sun, we have had 39? days of over 110 degrees, so unless I am able to head 2 hours out to Payson Az. lunting is out of the question.
It is a different story when everyone is freezing their butts off in Dec-Feb. and we enjoy the outdoors in the desert Southwest.
Back to Grizz....walking through historic places like Arlington cemetery, Gettysburg, or even Monument valley near me. There is something magical about enjoying a smoke in places that have so much historical significance.

One of my favorite pipe memories was smoking my clay tavern pipe in a tavern in Colonial Williamsburg. Back in the day when you could smoke in public when I/we traveled to big cities I always sought out the grand hotel lobby lounges (no way could I afford to stay there). It was fun settling in to the luxurious setting even with just a cup of coffee and to get some matches for the collection. |

That would be pretty cool to find a piece of driftwood set adrift from up river from someone you knew even via the interweb. Under ideal conditions it might make a fast trip in a year or two; it could take many years; or never reach my lunting areas. The Delta Queen has been out of service for some renovations and plans are to return it to service in the Fall of 2020. These are the renovations underway: "The Delta Queen is undergoing many exciting renovations at this time. One of the most significant upgrades will be replacing the boilers, which are original to the boat and constructed in 1919. The generators, main steam line, heating and air, plumbing and galley will also be either upgraded or replaced entirely. Common areas and staterooms will see various cosmetic updates." The lounges in The Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite Ntl. Park and Old Faithfull Inn in Yellowstone would also be cool places to enjoy a smoke in terms of grand indoor spaces. I never was able to secure room reservations at the times I visited either park, but I was able to reserve seating in the dining room of the Ahwahnee Lodge for breakfast one day and dinner another day while staying in one Yosemite's Curry Village tent cabins!! The food, service, ambiance, and views from the Ahwahnee Lodge Dining Room are quite a treat, especially for someone staying in a tent cabin! |

 according to the Urban Dictionary: Lunting is what pipe smokers do as a means of stress relief or to relax although it should be remembered that in large quantities tobacco can be hallucinogenic ...

I have walked in the city with my pipe. I have walked down country roads with my pipe in the early morning. My favorite places so far are always along the grand river, or the paths along the river. It's definitely quieter, relaxing and lots of wildlife.

so....i had to look up "lunting"....i lunt my lazy butt to my back yard fireplace and from there I lunt on back to the house after the smoke McG To be honest this sounds great to do in the spring or fall but right now it’s just to hot for this lazy lunter We had a relatively cool day a couple of weeks ago at the NE Texas house, and I was thinking about how good it would be to have a pipe whilst out in the yard by the pond. Problem with lunting there is the tree roots and snakes. |

The smoke will calm me and I'll notice different things like flowers, trees, wildlife, paddle wheel steam boats, driftwood, the weather, sky/clouds, talk to people, enjoy things more. I focus less on the pipe and more on the walk. If the pipe goes out I don't sweat it too much. Just relight and go. Or don't. Take it easy. You definitely want to walk slowly. Lunting should be more of an enjoyable meander than a purposeful walk, and you still want to be able to pay attention to the flavors as you go. Smaller straight pipes, less cumbersome tobaccos, and carrying a pipe wind cap are helpful. |
