Given their popularity, time they had their own forum.
I own none now but happily posseted four 1911s over they years and three Walthers.
I saw a Colt Commander in 9mm I was taken with a few weeks ago at a gun store in Taos. Just do not need more guns. I still enjoy reading about them. The old Parabellum has cone a long ways since WWII.

That is not something I worry about, living where I do. I appreciate a finely designed and well made pistol as much as anyone. I believe the 1911 to be perfect. It fits my hand like it was made for it. Nothing else has come close to that. Usually too fat in the grip. Ditto the Luger.

I find the Makarov cz 82 aluminum frame to be the perfect pistol it is a combo of Makarov and Walther design. Mostly found in 9x18 but that's ok Wolf makes good ammo.

Some months back I picked up a Ruger 357 for concealed purposes. Unfortunately while I love the gun, it does not work for a concealed at least for me. So last month I picked up a Smith/Wesson Shield 45 and it work perfectly as my concealed. 😀

I had a great Makarov and my FIL admired it until I gave it to him. His crack who#@ stole it and a lot of other stuff and he wouldn't press charges. Good gun. Much improved on the PPK.

“ The old Parabellum has cone a long ways since WWII.”
Truer words never spoken.
With the advancements in propellants and projectiles, the 9mm holds it’s own against the .45 without the recoil and ability to go double stack in a mag without noticeable weight.
I am a big fan of the 9mm for that reason and have seen ballistic tests in gelatin that back up the penetration capabilities.

Tell that to the FBI they developed the .40. The .45 was developed to knock boars high on drugs off their feet. The .40 has really grown in grown in sales in that regard. The 9 has improved on expansion Funny Europe has done just fine on a 9/18 basically a .38. I guess drunks drunk's are easier to knock down than druggies. The number one people killer is the lowly .22.

Equipment is on the list, just at the bottom. Far more important is Awareness, and Willingness to actually shoot, and other things.
My anti-civilian-gun mother had a self-defense .22 revolver for a short time. She kept it loaded with blanks, because 'I wouldn't want to shoot anyone!' That was the day I took her revolver.

Here’s mine, in my top drawer I had one of those but sold it in 2007. Just about perfect for self defense and regular carry albeit a bit heavy.

The above by Prussian firearm designer Andreas Wilhelm Schwarzlose model 1893. You can almost see the c93 Ludwig & Loewe & DMW Borchardt pistol in this. Lugar and Mauser wasted no time copying the basic design.

I am glad that I live in Canada. Despite what you see on the news, 99.9 percent of the ammo is used to punch holes in paper targets. No normal person actually wants to shoot people. Unless they feel the need to mess with us. 😎🤠

I am glad that I live in Canada. I hunted in Ontario in 1970. They did seem to be certain metallic cartridges would last. Plenty powder and ball for sale in stores.

Took the .460 Rowland kit off of the Springfield Operator TRP and went back all stock. Put 1 mag through it, using only the front site, fairly close and fairly rapid fire. Why mess with a good thing?

Only if you have no choice.
My first gun was a $180 Taurus PT-25. I thought it would be an ideal one with which to learn the safety rules, because if I did accidently shoot myself, I probably wouldn't die. I bought a lot of 500 Winchester XTPs to use as my defense round. It never fed a single one.
I was at the range bitching about that, and the range officer had a great idea: You have a tip-up barrel, right? Well, put an XTP in the barrel and load the magazines with ball.
Good idea. It also meant that, when I sold it, I knew exactly how many rounds it had fired: count the number of missing XTPs, and it was that many, plus nine FMJs. .25 ACP has to be about the most worthless pistol round there is, but at the time, it was all I had. Later, I went to a .38 and then to a couple of .357s.
