After reading up on Norinco pistols. I will pass. Perhaps an original Rus in the original caliber?

How about a nice used CZ75? A truly outstanding 9mm pistol that I frequently see for about $500 used, around here. Hard to beat it if you are avoiding polymer framed pistols.

If you are not averse to polymer..
I really like my Ruger SR9C, and they have the full size SR9, I got the C model for concealed carry (10 rounds) for concealed, backup mag is 17 rounds and with the spacer you have a full sized handgun. Dead nuts accurate and never had a failure to feed with any ammo. Not sure if it is still in production, but it would be easy to find I am sure.
A bit smaller, the SA Hellcat is about $500 new, (3 inch model, larger models available) and you can get it with red dot optics that is super fast on target acquisition. A bit smaller, if you have bigger paws. 11+1/ 13+1 mags… again the 13 feels a bit better, but the 11 is not bad at all. U shaped notch and tritium front sight. I added the Viridian laser sight that was super easy to install, and zeroed out of the box.
The Apex trigger and extractor that I added, I could easily live without, but ot is really nice… very crisp trigger break at 5.0 lbs. Easily drops into my cargo pocket.
No failures to feed on a variety of ammo brands either.

My EDC is a Sig Sauer P365XL, with manual safety. Only auto0loader pistol I own, or have tried, that checks ALL the boxes. YMMV.

I feel safe with the TT in a holster. It's got the same basic safeties as most old guns. I'll admit I haven't carried it with a round in the chamber. Be sure it comes with a magazine. The bottom of the 9mm is the same size as the 7.62x25 but I doubt it uses the same magazine. I noticed some are sold without a magazine. Odd practice. This one has one magazine. Not likely I would carry it a a concealed weapon. My Colts are for that. More of a curiosity. A WWII era weapon to keep my Colt Commando company. Might keep it in the truck with an empty chamber. Rack the slide when needed. I need to know more about its condition. For the price anticipated I can afford the "experiment". We will see how it is if I am successful bidder. I got mine out of curiosity and that's why I got the 7.62.

Really hard to go wrong with either, both are fine guns, highly affordable, excellent workmanship, and easy to field strip...therefore one is more prone to do so (clean Roscoe). And if you get one not working good out of the box (which is rare) the manufacturer will make it right. We actually live in good times, unless you are collecting old firearms, I would shy away from yesteryear. They were good in their time, but machining and metallurgy has come a long way, and if you do not want to dip your toes into being a hobby gunsmith, you will quickly find out that gunsmith prices can quickly exceed the price of a bargain gun.

The reviews of their TT33 clones has been consistently bad. Safeties often do not function and guns fire when on "safe", extraction problems, feed problems. General lack of finesse in manufacturing. It seems they were made for sale in the USA and not government surplus. Perhaps if one was a military surplus gun it would be better.

Sig makes some really nice stuff, they really have nice triggers.
I was really impressed by their CEO that spoke at the SAF convention in Phoenix, he is a heck of a speaker, and good at his job.
He said that on the average, they have 60 ongoing lawsuits at a time against them. Not for anything they are guilty of, but by people looking for a payout, more often than not represented by the usual suspects.

Snagged this little Beretta 81 in 32 for $300 earlier this year. Fun shooter in a marginal caliber. 32 auto has put a lot of people in the ground, however. Soft shooting and very controllable. Ammo is slightly scarce and definitely pricey. I hate reloading any cartridge smaller than 9mm or 380.

Quite a deal on that one, Don. (Beretta 81)
Nice looking pistola. Was that a Gunbroker deal?
Last I heard many moons ago, the lowly .22 took more lives than any othe caliber.

Lighter copper bullet so no difference in recoil. Got a scalloped tip that's supposed to penetrate well and make a large wound cavity. It's not like I shoot it other than function testing, so the cost isn't bad.

So far all I have is ball ammo. I’ve heard that almost all hollow point designs in 32, fail to expand. Gotta be a few advanced designs that will by now.

I would be willing to bet that round will not expand. I have yet to find a video of a 32acp hollow point that expanded in ballistics gel. I have a bunch of Norma 70gr ball for now. Good ammo. I started to order from Fast Ammo and the shipping for my order came to over $50. For four boxes of ammo. I never could figure out why it was as showing that so I went with a different company last time. I wish 32 was the price of 9mm and available off the shelf at any gun shop, but nope.
