uh, the metal one. Just kidding. Has vertical lines on it. I think I know the one you're talking about. I think they call it "engine-turned" or something? Comes in silver and black, at least. Which one you get? Just silver.

Hard to wrong with silver. Or should I say stainless steel.

I tried Zippos, Old Boys, matches. I say 'Bic Power' all the way, baby! Bic makes about 4.4 million lighters everyday, I believe they came on the market in the mid 70’s....pretty crazy numbers. www.bicworld.com/en/our-products/lighters

I've got a couple of those. I like them well enough, but they don't hold enough gas for regular use for me.

I just picked up two of these, the Dissim lighter was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. The lighter has gotten good reviews and the customer service seems to be great. This place has them for $25.00 everywhere else seems to charge $45.00 including the manufacturers site. I bought two, because with a purchase of $30.00, you get free shipping. www.bulletbranch.com/shop/dissim-inverted-lighter/halfwheel.com/dissim/385162/The flame adjustment looks pretty neat in the halfwheel video, it looks like you can get a tiny flame to save your rim, and the thumb/ finger hole looks like it will be great when inverting the lighter, and an angled port. And it has a visible tank to check the fluid level.

That is like mine from the late 60's...that button turns off the gas...the new ones don't have that button...or so I've been told.

Interesting, Charlie. I like it. How much fuel does it hold?

Interesting, Charlie. I like it. How much fuel does it hold? It weighs 3 ounces and has a capacity of 2 grams of fuel. halfwheel.com/dissim/385162/

Roger, that. Once you've had a chance to use and refill it, maybe you can give us a feel for how it compares to others you've used.

Just spent a half hour trying to post some pictures of a few of my angled flame pipe lighters with Imgur links and failed. Oh well, sorry! I've got another great looking Davidoff pipe lighter hopefully arriving from Europe tomorrow. .

Roger, that. Once you've had a chance to use and refill it, maybe you can give us a feel for how it compares to others you've used. I still haven't had to refill it, but I am not a heavy smoker. Initially, I had to spark it a few times to light, but after the break in, it lights every time on first spark, and the flame stays consistent with what is set. The index finger in the hole with it inserted, no chance of getting the finger near the flame and the construction will work equally well with a southpaw. It quickly became my favorite lighter....a well thought out design, and a nice heft to it.

I actually use wooden matches when I can, but I also have a pipe insert in my zippo when I just want to "get 'er done" Normally, I prefer wooden matches. That said however, I've been known to light my pipe with a magnifying glass, focusing the rays of the sun on the tobacco. It takes a little longer, but that's OK. It's a useful technique to use on a breezy summer day.

Roger, that. Once you've had a chance to use and refill it, maybe you can give us a feel for how it compares to others you've used. Just checking back in. Today it required a refill, so it lasts pretty long but I smoke one bowl most days, up to six or seven at a pipe club meeting. As the fuel dropped in level, an increase in the flame height kept me in the game, over four or so smokes. It is nice that it didn't just run out leaving me in the cold. When I refueled, and sparked it up I was quickly reminded that the flame height needed to go down to the full tank setting. I have had a lot of good lighters and this is the best one, not heavy on bling but a solid performer with a lifetime warranty. The only lighter I have or have had that beats it (Old boy, Colibri pipe lighter, Beattie, Nimrod, Flambeau Flamidor, Zippo)...is the Zippo in the wind, but since I tend to not smoke in the wind, this lighter is top gun.

I too prefer matches these days, but I find my outdoor smoking to be a problem as it gets windy a lot this time of year.

I use a torch lighter outside on those rare occasions when I actually smoke outside.
