That sucks, John.
I wish I lived closer...but then again, I would be in the same boat I reckon.

Half of a baked potato. Half of a baked acorn squash. Just not very hungry. Evenings are like that. Not much appetite. I better get with it. A leg of lamb and a Picanha are in route. I would hate to have to feed that to the dogs!!! I order meat on-line now as the stores in Town of Toad are not worth the trouble nor the risk of exposure to virus. Worst meat department I have seen. Just curious— if you don’t mind telling us, where are you ordering your meat. No worries if it’s a secret... Why would it be a secret? Wildfork.com. Their prices are lower than town and free shipping with fast delivery. I have no other way of finding a leg of lamb. The sheep producers in tierra amarilla charge $16 per pound. Wild Fork is less than $7.

Swung through the drive-through at Carl Jr’s for lunch today. A very hateful, young lady of about 400lbs working at the window demanded I put my cigar out. I ignored her. I’m in my truck, and I don’t respond well to disrespect or rude behavior, so it’s best to not respond at all. She didn’t let up, just got meaner. Told me I was breaking the law, demanded again I put it out. I ignored her. By the time I finally got my meal (which turned out to not be what I had ordered) and pulled away, she was screaming at somebody in the building to record my license plate so she could call the cops on me. For having a lit cigar in my own truck. I was holding it in my right hand out over the passenger seat so it wasn’t blowing in her window, but she could still see it. I ain’t stubbin’ out a perfectly good hand rolled cigar without good reason for anyone. Not in my own truck. Not for a loud, self-entitled, discourteous millennial. Crazy people. We seem to be getting more and more of them, maybe courtesy of the social disruption of this COVID thing. I don’t think it’s MAKING them crazy— just bringing it out more. You handled that perfectly.

Just finished a skillet dinner, the spouse and I. Onions, thin sliced potatoes, and sliced chicken-apple brats. Very tasty, and since I did all the slicing and cooking, I have a very happy wife. She even agreed to do the dishes...lol.

After this comment, I decided that I deserved better so I had a sandwich. Venison and pork sausage with provolone and Grey Poupon toasted rye.

No lamb legs available in Taos except the very expensive organic lamb at the special store where the especial people shop.- Cid's Food Market. I refuse to pay $16 per pound. I just want a whole bone-in lamb leg. French the shank end bone and that is what is gripped for carving the roast.

As we don't eat lamb, I haven't seriously looked at the prices, but I did notice that it's expensive. The Wife likes lamb when we go out, but she doesn't want to cook it. She ate it every week at the Greek diner by where she used to work. They have a whole bone in leg, chops and shanks. I would send you some, but adding shipping on top of the already high is price would make it more than Waygu.

You can thank one of the Oval Office geniuses who eliminated the USDA Sheep Subsidy for the increase in lamb prices and the scarcity of wool products. Our vast herds of sheep quickly disappeared. Terrible policy decision by another ignoramous in office. It is a shame that our Presidents never know anything about farming and ranching.

Farmers’ and ranchers’ efficiency and good practices put many of them out of business. When I was born 50% of Americans were rural and agriculture-related. Today they have to be lumped together with timber and commercial fishing to even reach 1%. That explains so much about our current social predicament. But I’m a ruralist so what do I know?

Market forces are such that some farm products cannot be left on their own or they will disappear. Sheep husbandry being an example. It is shame to see it disappear. Only now people are re-discovering that miracle fiber- wool. Superior to microfleece in so many ways.

I persist in my do-it-quick fetish. Tonight, in a bowl, 1/3 lb of ground venison, very little fat added. Drench with Lea & Perrins and knead in a small handful of pecan 1/4s. Grill on very hot griddle. Mashed potatoes on the side, along with a glass of vino da tavolo. Strange how the pecans took a nice supporting role to the meat. Very pleasant indeed. Mild but savory.

Ordered in some beef bolgogi and brown rice from my favorite local Korean restaurant they also make their own kimchi in house so a nice side of that. It was worth the 20 bucks plus the tip I left the driver.
