Overcast and breezy, but snow is still melting. Momma and I got the COVID check in the direct deposit this morning and immediately paid off 1 credit card in full and put the remainder toward another. Maybe I’m starting to finally grow up, in days gone by I would have just bought another gun...or saddle. I got mine and applied it to the Ruger 10/22 Stainless International I've always wanted. Credit cards were already paid off. I bought new tires for my daughter.

A little warmer today, about 37 degrees this morning. Breezy with snow still on the ground. Will probably work on more training videos today.

I do not want to push the envelope on political speech here, BUT, please consider those who have lost their jobs and are in need this time of year. Agreed that any form of government assistance raises those expectations.

38 degs in South Acadiana, farmer picking and moving misc equipment. Sunny but cold. Watched a movie last night called The Radium Girls, stellar movie about how Companies can inflict heavy damage on individuals and get away with it.

Busy day y’day. My hunters decided to take their pickup in the badlands arroyos that make up the east of my place. Bad country in the best of times, but not a good place to explore with a vehicle with 6-18” of snow on the ground. Despite 4WD they got stuck and high-centered about a mile from HQ. Hiked back to get me and my ton-and-a-quarter to pull them out. It was slippery and canted (hillside) and the bad ruts and drop-offs couldn’t be seen under the snow. Stuck so bad that while trying to pull them out I slithered over the edge and got mired myself. And THERE we were! Luckily we had mobile reception and in an hour or so a team of neighbors showed up with a bigger rig and slingshotted us both out. Dumb stunt by hunter, but all turned out well and we had a few laughs.
After that I decided to stop crop agriculture on a 13-acre field immediately north of the house and turn it into a feed and habitat area for deer and birds. To start on it in the spring. Looking forward to the challenge.
Today... is a day or rest! :^)

I learned early in life, 4 wheel drive just gets you stuck further down the road, give me a good tractor.

It is always a bummer when someone in your group makes a foolish decision that consumes everyone else’s time and in this case, puts another vehicle at risk. Glad you guys pulled it off and ended with a laugh about it.

I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but right before Christmas I landed a new job with a waterworks company. They supply products on the industrial scale for construction and municipalities.. All sorts of pipes, Valves, fittings, etc...In every material, cast Iron, brass, pvc, etc. I drive a flatbed (usually straight trucks, 2 axles and 10 wheeelers, sometimes the semi. We service the eastern side of Phoenix, and up to Flagstaff, as far out as Winslow and to the south Douglas, Az. Home every day and in my own bed.
Everything goes on and comes off with equipment, all I do is throw staps and remove them. Typical day is 6AM to 2 PM, and I negotiated a wage considerably higher than "what we pay for this position". It is owned by a big conglomerate from Australia, and they have sister companies involved in plumbing supplies for residential including sinks, faucets, water heaters, etc. HVAC also, and electrical. I can purchase anything for personal use for 10% over wholesale.
I am in the honeymoon phase for sure, but so far it looks like a great way to glide to retirement. It sure beats the hell on what I was doing. If I was still there, it would be off to ElPaso or San Diego for another week.

Just heard from my folks in Kentucky. My dad is 74 years old, diabetic and has very advanced congestive heart failure. They took him to the ER this morning because he couldn’t hardly breath and got so weak he couldn’t hardly move. The hospital met him at the door, gave him a flu test and a COVID test and sent him away until the test results come back. That old man is sitting in his car with mom in the parking lot of the hospital waiting! I’m pretty...not happy ... at the moment.

That is just ridiculous, Dewayne, you have a right to be upset.
I will pray for your father and the doctors and staff to have the wisdom in going forward.

Dewayne, I feel for you. Your father is definitely in our thoughts and prayers. Hard as it is. Try to keep calm. I hope the medical team has enough grey matter between their ears, in order to treat your father (properly).

Well, my badlands-exploring deer hunters left for home this morning— without venison. You have to work at it to go without results on my place considering the sheer number of deer here. But that’s OK, they had a good time and there was good fellowship and proper regard all around. Some of my very best and most memorable days afield resulted in a case of “no meat,” so killing something is very far from highest on my list. I’ve heard it said that the worst day hunting is better than the best day at work. Welllll... maybe.
So we’re back to solitude here on the ranch, just me and the boyz. Pretty much just the way we like it. Freezers full of meat and victuals, some good whiskeys (and whiskys!) in the cabinet, a fire in the fireplace, and an AK47 behind the front door. Life is good!

Too many people do not know what hunting deer is. THey think to drive up and shoot them because they see deer on the road at home. Deer have survived these years because they smarter than the predators pursuing them. IF you want to bag a deer you have to work at it. Learn the country. Know where they water and how they get there. You know what I am saying. Many hunters just want an excuse to drive around in their costumes, drinking from a flask and pretending they are bad men. I see then here often. An AK-47 behind the front door? If Vlad and the Spetsnaz parachute into your location, you will be ready for them!!! I uses to keep as SKS with a banana clip behind my front door. Then I went to a Coach Gun and buckshot. Then I went to a Redhawk. Now I just have a leather wrapped sap and the guns are in a safe where no one will steal them. Our Perps are kind of pathetic and lame. Gun not really needed here.

The 12ga pump is in the bedroom. That is good. In the bed room, I just have a sword made in Toledo, Spain in 1940. A kind of saber.
