Another beautiful Spring day here in Northern California. I feel like I'm finally getting my head above water following the hip replacement 7 weeks ago. Other than some soreness disrupting my sleep, I'm actually feeling normal. I eliminated smoking during that period, and finally over the last week been tasting some nice blends again. OK, I admit I snuck a couple of pipe fulls earlier when no one was looking. My ex did that November 2020. It takes time to snap back but soon you will be back on your feet feeling much better.

Sitting waiting dispatcher said a car ran into the train ahead of me guess they could not see it. Maybe they failed the eye test 😝 Is there any talk of jobs being phased out for the autonomous technology? I figure that the railroads will be all over adopting that technology. Yes they have gone that direction but it has been very rough for us we work harder. They can not understand why one person can't do everything. You should read the company reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed for train service it will enlighten you all.

Clear and cold here in Boise today. My son and I are going to try to find and install a gooseneck hitch in my truck today. Did you get a different truck or your flat bed does not have a 2inch ball?

I got a different truck. The flatbed was getting a tired for the miles I plan on putting on it. My son is getting out of the Marines in July, and he wants it, so I sold it to him. I got a 2003 F350 with a bullet-proofed 6.0 in it.

A bit cool today (57° high) but took the dorgz down to the creek anyway. Eli, who has been leery of the water, now can’t seem to stay out of it, despite the temp and the wind. Loves to dash across it like a cavalry squadron, turn around and dash back. By summer-time he will be a water dog. (Did you know GSPs have webbed feet?) Also started working on the hemlock problem. Took my 70-year-old restored Ford tractor (named “Harrison”) with a blade on the back out to drag out old hemlock canes and bare the ground. Might be a winning tactic as it worked a treat. Snow forecast for Thursday and Friday. O, joy.

While smoking my pipe out front tonight, my granddaughter Sedona reminded me that when we are hanging out, she is to help with the tamp. That sent me back to looking up an old thread.... thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/5337/deepShe tamps well, she knows the exact pressure.

Back from inspecting irrigation ditch excavations yesterday. On the four wheeler ATV, frozen stiff. Had to make a fresh pot of hot tea to thaw out.
Cold here.

Last day at The Villages, FL. Heading home tomorrow. Stopped by a place called Shooters World and bought some ammo. High priced but not as high as I've seen elsewhere. Box of 50 45ACP for $40 - $0.80 per round. 9mm the same - $0.80 per round.

At least there was ammo in stock!!! Hard to find. Too bad they didn't have any reloading supplies. I could use some primers. What crazy times we live in! The last 45 ammo I bought (admittedly a couple of years ago) was $16 for a box of 50 Winchester whitebox hardball. I guess those days are gone forever. Loading 9mm with boughten hardcast I can get by for about 10¢ a round and about the same for 45 200LSWCs. Less if using homecast from scavenged lead. Powder is available sporadically but primers, especially SPs are the hard knot. If I cut back on the shooting I’ve enough to last a good long while, but I hate the thought of running out and just won’t do it.

I visited the usual on-line sources for ammo that I have used for years. Everyone of them was sold out- no back order for every caliber I checked on. It is as though they have all exited the ammunition sales market.

None of the leads in that chart have SPs in stock. Powder Valley is a very good supplier, but their only listing is for SPs at $55/1000 and these are out of stock, as they are everywhere else. Some shooters are using SRs in their handguns, even with 9mms. Keep in mind that is EXPERIMENTAL and requires some experience and extremely good judgment. Results and advice are all over the place. From “It’s fine” to “Never do it!” Personal choice and personal experience. You’re on your own. Research the topic and then make your decision.
