Worked all day then snuck in a nap around 3 ish. Headed out for my evening walk around 4:30, and then cooked up some dinner. I have to work on this wine rack project down in the basement, but I keep procrastinating. I guess it will be a weekend project at this point. Afternoon naps are the best!!

A thing I learned today: Four ounce jars are darn near useless, even for storing 1-oz. samples. You can get 2oz in one if you work at it.

I am teaching my daughter to play "Change" by Shannon Hoon. I have a musical daughter. Finally I am not the only one in my family to love music!

Just spending a quiet afternoon collecting my thoughts, enjoying the sunshine whilst smoking my pipe. Love days like this!

A little genealogy work today. Got together with an uncle and a couple of other more distant relatives and tried to identify relatives in a collection of old photos. Learned a few things. Heard some interesting stories - some of them probably even true.

Drop by when you have less time. (An Irish fiddler friend used to say that to city upstarts that would come into the pub, play a coupla sets, and then leave.)

I miss the days of going into a bar and hearing an Irish diddlydee session. Can't wait to do that again.
Was wild windy and wet today. Managed a quick walk along the clifftop walk to the giant's causeway but nearly got blown over the side. Wind was wild... About 45mph.

We had a great Irish pub in Houston, but it got too popular and crowded. It's not really like an Irish pub with 200 people in it.

Love the Irish pubs, never was in Ireland but spent little time in New York, got a lot of free beer on my birthday, Saint Patrick’s day. I imagine it’s like down here, converted old grocery stores or service station for Cajun jams , hot accordion licks, Cajun with high pitched voice, glasses clinking, couples moving fast on dance floor, Hot Damn moving like fire ants done got in their drawers, man that good yea!

My favorite pub was the old Bric’s outside of Ballyferriter (Kerry). Every Friday night a really good session with regulars. Small place, about 20x20’ and it would be PACKED. An offloading trip to the jakes had to pre-planned or you weren’t gonna make it! The kind of jam where you had to tuck your elbows into your side to keep from dumping your pint down someone’s jumper. Wonderful place, wonderful times.

None of that pansy water for me! 😜🤠 When i was in the Air Force, a buddy of mine who was French would have his family send him on a regular basis bottles of Laphroiag and Chateau Neuf du Pape. We enjoyed them immensely. In those days the stuff cost almost nothing. This was when the only wine connoisseurs lived in castles on the Rhine and single malt was little known in the States.

Depends which pub you go to. When I was in college (UCLA in Los Angeles) and lived near the coast, I was a frequenter of an Irish pub in Santa Monica. O'Brien's. The place is still there. The owner (O'Brien) was from Ireland and on weekends he would have Irish bands in to play. All Irish music. The place was a favorite among college students. Must have been the Guinness on tap. We would buy pitchers of it. Today it's got sports on multiple TVs on the wall, trivia quizzes still going on, and Guinness still on tap. But I think somebody else owns it.

One of the great beauties and blessings of Ireland is its pubs. Thousands of them and no two alike. A town of 200 will have three or four. Not just watering holes, but also a kind of community center for the regulars. If you like you can sit at a table, order a pot of tea, and read or write there all day. No one will bother you, except perhaps to ask if you’d like another pot of tea or something to eat. Pints always available, of course. Kids are allowed. Dogs are allowed. Even tourists are allowed if they behave themselves.

Drank my share at many Pubs in the west counties. All great.
I remember in Dublin, "The Old Baily", I think it was. Popular place with Solicitors and Barristers back then. Then there was "Davy Byrne's".
In NYC, I was a regular at "Eamon Dorin's Pub", on 3rd Avenue, as I recall. On occasion, "McSorley's Ale House" way downtown.

I'll set up a briar patch face to face in Ireland. Would be great... Except there's no smoking indoors and getting decent weather is a Gamble.
