I saw Mandy Patinkin being interviewed because Ted Cruz had quoted his line from princess bride during a campaign. The guy came unhinged stating that it was unconscionable that anyone culturally appropriate such a noble character, and that character deserved better. The guy came across as a nutcase. My name is Mandy Patinkin and you have insulted my character ... prepare to die!

I might have missed it but I don’t see a 2021 movie thread. Anyway... Last night I watched THE PRINCESS BRIDE for the first time. (It was in the $3.74 bin at Walmart.) I know I am way behind the curve and that it is a “cult film” of sorts. So I was looking for an evening of, maybe, laughter and catching-up. No such luck. It was a hot mess of bad acting, with-it borscht-belt snidery, along with indications that the director— if it even had one— had slept through most of the filming. It was painful to watch Chris Sarandon and Andre the Giant plod through their lines, and the Billy Christal and Wallace Shawn schticks were agonizing. So much for catching-up. But it was only $3.74, although that is a little much to pay for a cold-drink coaster. I enjoyed that movie enormously and share none of your opinions about it. The various schticks applied were right down my lane of stupid laughs. I am also a Three Stooges fan. that diversity is what makes for an interesting audience! Rob Reiner earned that title the hard way. "Meathead".

Not so much Tom Hanks, perhaps because he always plays reasonable men doing responsible and heroic things.
Even Fredrick March, who was known for his sober sensibility and solidity on both side of the camera, went a little haywire filming "Inherit the Wind". He played the William Jennings Bryant inspired character. I guess he went around ranting Biblically during and after the filming and had to be de-programmed.
Some great actors have trouble letting go of their characters.

I've known folks who seem to have lost their personal identity and be consumed by their work identity

Re Tom Hanks: Oh I dunno.. he did play the lead role in Big, also had the main character in Mazes and Monsters. Both classics but very much not reasonable men doing responsible or heroic things.

I'm pretty sure that the EU will be refusing entrance to Americans soon. Even those of us who are allowed to travel. I really hope you're wrong. Maybe, since Northern Ireland is no longer in the EU and there's no hard boarder, there might be a silver lining to at least visit Ireland. But why would they even do that? Oh, you haven't seen anything yet. 😜🤠

I saw a bit of satire recently where God promised to destroy the world if anyone tried to remake The Princess Bride.

I guess it’s time for me to commit seppuku. (I have the blades for the task.) But I refuse. So there.

Went out to buy a pair of slippers and then took the long way home. Passed through the town where my folks had a vacation home back when I was a kid and stumbled upon a bar/restaurant and went in for a beer. Turns out, my cousin in law is the head chef there so I got to see him for a little bit. Great guy

Pretty bizarre, and informed me that they may all be great actors but probably should limit themselves to operating and communicating in that realm.

I saw an interview once with Marlon Brando that made me feel like l was the one that and dropped a couple of quaaludes with wild turkey. That level of crazy is surreal.

Living in Los Angles, I spent much time at the Laurel Canyon Dog Park above Hollywood. I had the opportunity to meet many actors and observe them in the reality of scooping their dog's poop and making small talk with mere mortals. Some of them were strange and struggled to focus. Others, like Jack Lemmon and Martin Landau, were perfectly normal. The worst was Lolita Davidovitch who seemed convinced she really is the Princess Anastasia and behaved accordingly. Serfs beware her wrath.
I had a good friend who was on most of the crime and cop shows of the 1960s and 1970s. He was Italian American from Bronx NY and looked like a punk hood. He was a contender for the role of Fredo in "The Godfather" but did not make it. He varied from day to day on who he was going to be. One day he tossed a big bowl of meatballs and rigatoni in red sauce out the window of his car and onto my windshield. You just never know.
Actors are best left to their craft and never depended upon for anything else.

I only ever met Vincent Price. You would think that he would be the strangest of the bunch, but he was like a kindly old grandfather. Standing on a corner by Trinity University just talking to whoever walked up. Just us and a couple of teens were havinga conversation while the rest of Dublin walked by oblivious.

Took advantage of the nice weather and golfed today (my second tranquil place). Course was a little sloppy from all the rain we’ve had but felt good to go for a walk and hit a white ball with a pipe in my mouth.

I expected to get up early and be productive this morning. That didn't quite work as planned, but I blame it on the fact that we had friends over till almost 3 AM. Either way, I got my arse moving around 10. Did some running to Ikea — which we skipped because of the line — Raymour & Flanigan, and Home Depot. Then it was a nap, dinner, and my second wind which got my productivity back on track. This is what has been in the planning stages. Got the first rack up, will be adding two more this week and that will finish it.
