Took advantage of the beautiful weather and golfed again today with a pipe in my mouth. Doesn’t get any better than this. 😁🏌️♂️

Warmed up nicely here, today. Mid-50s, with plentiful sunshine. It's a shame I've been at my desk all day.

Been acclimating myself to the new Sig (P365XL). Wearing it full time. (Out here you “wear” a sidearm, you do not “carry” it. Either way works for me.) Part of EDC is having the thing with you. This one will be easy to live with. I’ve been wearing a Kimber CDP, an alloy frame Commander-sized 1911. Weighs 34oz loaded, 8 rounds. That’s 5 ounces lighter than an unloaded full size, all-steel 1911 which will go 43-44oz loaded. One HEAVY pistola. The Sig weighs 26 loaded with 13 rounds on board, slightly more with the 15-rd magazine. 45 vs. 9mm of course but with modern ballistics the 9 punches WAY above its weight. I worked out a way to get a numerical comparison of different weapons and the energy they can deliver. Seems to work. I may post it later. Meanwhile I continue to “dry train” with the Sig. I’m impressed with the little machine. Slightly better weather will see some metal pushed though it.

You picked a fine tool for the job, and weight at some point really starts to become an issue...unless you are the fabled Arizona Ranger.

I'm happy with what I have. If I need more than 8 rounds I really screwed up some where. If I knew I was going to need something with more bullets I would carry a bigger gun. Besides, I can shoot the R-51 very well which counts for a lot.

It was upper 60s today in NE Texas. And sunny. My fever was down to 99 so I did some work today. I put the brush seals on the barn door. Keep the heat in or out as needed. Tomorrow more work as the rain allows.

If we ever have to use ours we will have screwed up somehow anyway. That Remington is a really fine looking little gun. I’ve admired it a lot, but I wanted the extra gunload. Want and need are two different critters, as we all well know.

I don't carry, though. Not really interested in it. I just enjoy the challenge of shooting well, and I find ballistics oddly fascinating. That's why I tend to like the oddballs -- the .25-06, the 7mm-08, the 6.5 Swede and .260 Remington.

Bite your tongue. Nothing “odd-ball” about the 7-08. Or the magnificent Swede. I hate to think of what Simo would have done to the Russkis with a Swede and a 10x ‘scope.

You can tell I am “recoil averse” by my having brakes on both my 6.5 Grendels.

None of the ones I mentioned would make a list of top cartridges in terms of popularity, though. If you wanted something chambered in a cartridge you could get anywhere, none of those would be on your shopping list.

ETA: Oh, but you would have a brake on that. Right. It's just anybody near you who would have a problem.

The blast only bothers people who aren't holding the rifle.😉🤠

I guess the 2 big wars are probably largely responsible for that.

Mid 30's today. Most of the snow has melted.
Reloaded some ammo specially for Pistol League.
Week 1 of Pistol League was tonight. Shot in the small and large caliber categories. Didn't do bad. The special loads for 45 make a big difference. Very accurate.

Too heavy for an old man My 450 only weighs 7.5 pounds with a 7 round magazine. And the weight is all between the hands.

BTW, just in passing— the secret to “comfy wearing” a sidearm is a good belt. Plan to pay a few shekels for one, but it is WAY worth it. Nothing helps quite as much.

If that SHTF scenario really ever happens you can forget about finding “common” ammo, anywhere. It will be long gone. As it pretty much is already.
