I hope to come off as curious without sounding flippant but I'd love to hear what ya'll think about Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cat Stevens and those 70s guys with acoustic guitars? I feel like my entire life people have been telling me that they're great but I really don't get the appeal. I can't say I'm a big fan of Billy Joel's 70s catalog or Peter Frampton but I sort of get the appeal but can't figure out these three... I mean, Jim Croce and Merle Haggard are sort of ok but what's the appeal of Jackson Browne and why were women all over the USA fawning over James Taylor!?!? Couldn’t tell you. But when you find out, kindly let the rest of us know.

We've been to 3 Jackson Browne concerts and I have a couple of t-shirts somewhere. Jim Croce and Merle Haggard were amazing. Actually, everyone you mentioned was great. I get it if you just don't like their music. I don't care for the oom-pa music that was all over the radio in the DF in 1969.

I have a driveway loop here on the place that takes me about 315 steps to make. The gyms are all closed, I have no weights or room for them, and I don’t want to get too terribly out of shape over the winter. So I found 2 empty 5 gallon buckets with lids and filled them with water. Together, they make up roughly 85 lbs. I’ve been making that loop with the buckets, doing my own improvised “farmers carry” that I used to do in the gym. At first, that loop took 3 rests along the way to make all 315 steps. I would do the loop 3 times, making almost 950 steps carrying 85 lbs. Today I was able to make the entire loop in one pass. I’ve finished it twice, and about to make my 3rd round when I catch my breath.
If you want something bad enough, you don’t always have to pay someone else money to make it happen.

With Cat Stevens you get two guitarists Alan Davies and Stevens they are so good that you rarely hear them out of sync. James Tayler and Jackson Browne are best heard live. None of the guys need to be turned up loud you are looking for nuance and lyrics.

Wife’s off visiting her mom tonight and I’ve got the house to myself. Hoping after dinner tonight I’ll have time to get a second bowl in. Wild and crazy life I lead. 🤪

The days that I feel like moving I get a lot of exercise moving boxes, raking leaves, putting up shelves, cutting up logs, etc. If I run out of things to do I have a couple of gallon paint cans full of cast lead bullets that I can TRY to carry around the house. From the barn to the highway is about 300 steps, but it's up hill both ways.

Looks like another day with no rain and no wind. Gotta get some fencing done today, tighten some loose wire, straighten some posts and run a strand of hotwire

Snow forecast for tomorrow. I hope it arrives. The more, the merrier Spring I will have. It feels so good when it stops hurting.

My last tranche of deer hunters are here this weekend. So far they have taken one antlerless buck that I am glad to have out of the gene pool. I like giving folks the chance to hunt and it helps to reduce the herd, which needs doing here. But apart from that I like it even better when there are no “outsiders” on the place. No doubt a sign of growing misanthropy on my part. I blame it on 2020. And the early moments of 2021.

I can only deliver what God and nature has provided. No snow pack, no run off, no run off, no irrigation. That is the way it works in NM. Not having water is no reason not blame me for the shortage. I must have done something crooked. Sold the water to the Texans (our favorite bogeymen). So, I hope for more snow and cool Spring temperatures.

This area was extremely remote from 1800 to about the middle 1950s. It was hard to get to as the mountain roads kept washing out. It would take most of the day to get here from Taos, about 45 miles as the crow flies. In hte 1950s=, a paved highway was set and now it takes only about one hour. The folks here have always been suspicious of outsiders. After 22 years, I get what they mean and also do not like outsiders for the same reasons. That is just human nature I guess. WE are a collection of old grumps.

They exemplified the voice of change. To young people, change doesn't come fast enough. To old people, it shouldn't come at all. That's just life. Personally, change is part of the universe and I'm glad to see it.

At this point I'm imagining a lot cowboy- Dick Dastardly types running hoses to Lake Caddo!

Gonna snow tonight, they say. 5-7 inches. I thought that in West Texas the snow is measured in feet? Everything is deeper in Texas.....

Low to mid 40s today and no wind in sight. Perfect day for a pipe and a round of golf. Didn’t play well as the course was very sloppy and I’m not a “picker” of the ball. 🏌️♂️

For the third day in a row the doggos have had no run. Weather and the presence of hunters. A month ago he would have been bouncing off the wall, but I am surprised at how good he is being. He is 8 mos now and something happens about then: they start to “get the idea.” Long way to go yet but he is definitely becoming more civilized. Calm and quiet in his crate and slightly (!) more reserved when out in the house. Very affectionate and likes to cuddle and get neck massages. Having two hunting hounds is starting to come together. Can hardly wait ‘til spring/summer when I can smoke a bowl or two on the deck with them lying around farting and snoring.

That sucks Ron,I think your wife is on to something, and is worth listening to. I doubt anyone else on God's green earth has more invested in offering sage advice. After all, she has put up with you all these years. I say the same about myself when thinking logically!

Any trouble there? Eyes seem as good as usual. If it lasts I will try to see the local nurse practitioner Monday. She is pretty good.
