My old LG Flip Phone has finally come to the end. It spent 30 hours underwater in an irrigation ditch some years ago but that was no reason to stop working. The screen finally died. The phone sends and receives I just cannot read the screen.
So, this means I have to join the world of Smart Phones. Naturally I want to spend as little as possible. Any recommendations or other advice from the cognoscenti?

Received message from my dad’s long term care facility that they’ve had another outbreak of Covid yesterday. Think this is the sixth one in two months. If this isn’t “jail” for seniors not sure what is.

Any recommendations or other advice from the cognoscenti? Having been with Apple gear since ‘87 I imagine you know where I’m going... I’m currently using an iPhone 11 Pro Max, which has an incredible camera array. Expensive, but worth it to me. There are plenty of downwards reaches from there. (The newest are 12s.) I do not care for Android phones. I have a number of friends who have them and they are a PIA IMO. We cannot exchange images, for example. They just refuse them, although I can usually get theirs. I don’t want to get in a war over brands, but this is my 7th or 8th phone of various configs and IMO the iPhones are vastly superior to anything else out there. (BTW, this 11 makes a darn good sub for a computer and with a Bluetooth keyboard works a treat for almost anything my desktop can do. Not everything, but most of it.) Good luck!

Another big Apple fan here, I have an IPhone 11 Pro Max that I really like. I was an Android fan until I started using an IPhone. Both are good though. My son bought me my last two IPhones, so it made for an easy decision. CNET generally does a good job on tech stuff. www.cnet.com/topics/phones/products/

I have the IPHONE 6S, when I retool it will be the 11Pro Max as Bob has, read up on them, agree with everything he said, if I get my 600$ check from the Gov that’s what I’ll get.

Gonna snow tonight, they say. 5-7 inches. I thought that in West Texas the snow is measured in feet? Everything is deeper in Texas..... Usually the snow predictions never pan out here. I remember a few years ago the weathermen were predicting 12" of snowfall on a certain day. Some people were panic buying for their milk sandwiches (its always bread and milk so I figure its milk sandwiches they are eating) and we only got about 1/2". But today I have 7" in the back 40 so there you go. When I lived in Northern Iowa, that was snow by the foot.

We used to get a LOT more snow here than we have been getting. When I lived up-country (40 miles north) the main road, a two-track, could be closed for a week or more and drifts of 20’ were not uncommon. Now that I’m down closer to the river and the lake snowfall seems to have diminished, plus 2/3 of the blizzard forecasts never come about. This is NOT a complaint.

Another day here with no wind or rain. That’s startin’ to make me nervous 😁. We have Sunday services this morning, then I’ll probably relax and unwind on the front porch later with a Partagas Black. No big plans

Everyone around here has an IPhone. The map utility sends them in the wrong direction. Every delivery goes on a wild goose chase. I have resisted the Apple monopoly for 30 years and after the last stunt it's not likely to change. My OnePlus 7 Pro beat the last generation of iPhone handily in all areas. I have a new Samsung coming. It's not the best, but it will do.

Mines still going strong. I believe it will last at least another year or more. The Samsung is just a backup because I got it cheap. Samsung loads their phones with unremovable crap. Oneplus doesn't. They are all made in China so what can you do.

My deer hunters are gone. They took one deer. Were lucky getting that one the way they crowd the place. But I think they had a good time. All family members so at least they had a nice re-union.
My pups got a nice run after three days without. But Eli took the recess very well. Surprisingly so. A month ago he would have been bouncing off the ceiling but this time he was calm and a very good boy throughout. Something seems to happen at 8mos. He’s getting civilized. I see it in other ways, too. He’s growing up.
Bliss! Nothing on the books ‘til 2/1. What’s not to like? Life is good!

I just went iPhone. Mostly for the camera, and all the rest of the family except Will have them. So sharing is much more connected and easy. Not only that, but I always have a wife or a kid to help explain things to me. Recording and uploading the training videos to YT is proving to be much simpler, and I have none of Google’s or Samsung’s unwanted, unused, bloated software filling my hard drive.
The downside is that it’s a 6s, and my big, ol’ paw swallows it up. I have a hard time hanging on to it. Or seeing the screen very good.

Who woulda thunk it— Texas to be piled higher and deeper... Jealousy showing again. I reserve my jealousy for the Real Thing— New Mexico. Actually, though, the word ‘jealousy’ was invented as a way to describe how people feel about western Nebraska. :^) But forget about coming here— we’ve stopped giving out visitor visas. Try Texas. They’ll take ANYBODY!

Beautiful day here today but I am having balance troubles. Wife thinks I have an inner ear problem and I agree. Sitting on the couch for 3 days now. Keep an eye on that one, Ron. Mom has Meniere's Disease, which is an inner ear disorder that causes severe, unpredictable dizziness. Losing your sense of balance is something people don't think about much, but man it is hard to beat for sheer misery. That poor woman has been through the wringer and back again.

Second consecutive day with temperature in the low-mid 40s. As usual, took advantage of the nice weather and golfed. 🏌️♂️😁
