Well, I said that I was going to stop fooling around with second-hand and questionable-quality pipes and I didn't see any better time than IPSD to get one. Here's what shipped today. I honestly hadn't considered the good doctor before, and was honestly surprised that I found one that I really like the look of. After reading the old Grabow thread last night, I knew I was making a good choice.  Enjoyed reading that Grabow thread. I had wondered about them. Always assumed the worst since you used to see them at Drug Stores. Quite enlightening. Need to pick one up. Those carved pipes like the one you got look great. |

That’s the way to do it when you can. We’ve got an unused spare bedroom that we keep some spare, shelf-stable groceries, jugs of water, coffee etc. in. I have cigars and pipe tobacco on hand, propane and heaters, lanterns, oil lamps, toilet paper...an apocalyptic snow could happen here and Momma and I wouldn’t have to go anywhere for a long time. I like the idea of having the sun do al my snow shoveling for me when possible 😁. You just gotta be patient, he only operates on his own time 😆. We do still have to shovel to feed livestock, and bust and haul water and such. But we don’t have to go anywhere This is another excuse for the wife to not get the dang goats she wants. She already has one old goat! |

I've a pen-pal in Scotland who tried to explain to me once that "professor" in the UK is reserved for a very specific subset of academics. Here in the US, the title is *technically* reserved for any teacher with a doctorate (although many of my own professors preferred 'doctor'), as opposed to the general term 'doctor' which is more frequently associated with physicians. I like to think of my pipe habit as medically prescribed |

Oh, and one of the things I particularly liked about those 2 Savs was neither is oversized. Their "normal" size pipes seem fairly rare in the US. That whole American bigger is better thing I guess. We get most of the KS, EX, etc., and Europe gets most of the normal sizes.
That's how it seems to me, anyway. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Seriously. UPS seems to have lost my anvil and my box of cigars in the snow somewhere. After two hours on the phone, I was able to convince someone to start investigations where people might actually go try to find my stuff...

They probably just rolled it in the ditch so they wouldn't have to deliver it. I have a Harbor Freight anvil and a piece of 5x5x10 steel block that handle all my bashing needs. |
