Yesterday I received a Peterson Pipe tamper from a great guy on the forum, it had a leather zippered pouch by Peterson also.

I'm glad it's not Jason's food. On some PBS documentary many years ago, a Frontline kind of thing, they were talking about the food shortage in the 3rd-world country it was about (sorry, don't remember the country). They showed a man in the marketplace with a rat wrapped in some kind of leaf. A thing he had purchased from one of the vendors. From behind, I watched in horror as he put the head of this rat in his mouth -- the whole thing -- and crrrrrrrunched! it up. I've never been able to get that sound out of my head, or the corresponding image. I suspect I never will.

I have to remind myself that daily existence is very different for a lot of people in the world. Eating to live is a harsh reality for many people. Now I feel bad about the joke I made.

Yeah, that plastic is only designed to store food for a few months. AFAIK, mylar is the only non-gas permeable plastic sheet. Personally, I’m not a fan of vacuuming all the air out of tobacco storage. Some people differ from that opinion. I like to have some oxygen present for an aerobic fermentation stage before non-aerobic fermentation. My opinion is that vacuum is good for stable storage but looses aging benefits. YMMV.

More adventures in shipping.
My package from Top Hat left St. Louis on the 23rd. It arrived in Memphis the same day. (Yay!)
On the 24th, status was updated to "In transit to the next facility."
On the 25th, it arrived . . . back in St. Louis.
Today, it arrived back in Memphis.

Hmmm... Just placed an order with them myself. We'll see if PSDS does better when they have to point the truck north.

The first one they sent on walkabout came here from Mississippi, then went to DC before coming back. The next one came from CT, went back to MA, then returned. Closer. Now they've managed to send one precisely back where it came from.

At the rate you’re going with your parcels you’ll have enough for a trip around the world post COVID. All kidding aside... what’s going on with your deliveries? Seems to me you’ve had issues for as long as I’ve known you.

Seems to me you’ve had issues for as long as I’ve known you. Since I just got here early this year, I'd say that's about right. I've always had problematic mail delivery, though. Random pieces of mail get returned to the sender, while the rest gets through. It's bizarre. But I've never had this much trouble with package delivery.

Today received an unsmoked 1968 Dunhill 120 shell briar. 'Unsmoked' wasn't mentioned and it looked pretty average in the photos - not sure how you make an unsmoked pipe look this bad, but here it is. The stem is oxidized, but I'm betting it scrubs off with Magic Eraser and a little B&A polish. I'm very excited, as I thought I'd never be able to afford one of these.

And a classic Dunhill shape. Make sure you post some more pics after you tidy up the stem. Will be interested to see the results.

Didn't think it was oxidized. Could I be wrong?

Very nice! And a classic Dunhill shape. Make sure you post some more pics after you tidy up the stem. Will be interested to see the results. I have an Oom Paul with a similar stem in color. Didn't think it was oxidized. Could I be wrong? Look at the part that is covered by the stummel when inserted - if it's black and the rest of the stem is greenish-brown or muddy brown it's oxidized - Dunhill solid-colored stems were pure black. I just put this stem and a similar stem from an unsmoked 1980's Peterson, into the Oxy bath. I'll show 'before and after' pics later. I have had a few Peterson army mounts where the entire stem was oxidized, but that's probably because that design could have a touch of gap around the ferrule, or it might have been stored with the stem unattached. Normally a Magic Eraser dipped in alcohol will take this type of oxidation off, but in this case it's not working and requires a soak. The bowl looked and felt looked unsmoked and there were no bite-marks, but I ran a pipe-cleaner through and got a touch of brown, so it was just well-taken care of. The estate it came from was almost all 1950's pipes that were mostly smaller than this one, so it just didn't get a foothold in the rotation.

A couple of 1950's Dunhill boxes coming soon. I don't collect packaging, but thought they would be nice just in case...
