Empires are brought to an end as much by natural catastrophe as they are by mismanagement. If one is looking for a parallel to what we face today with climate change and global warming, just take a look at how the Bronze Age ended. I thought the bronze age ended with the iron age. 🤔 Bronze age ended with severe climate change change, maybe heavy volcanic activity, drought and famine. Lot of warfare accompanying heavy migration of peoples across Europe, Mediterranean, and Middle east, looking for arable land. Iron age followed soon after, but there was a dark ages that came in between. During height of Bronze age there was heavy international trade and diplomatic relations between peoples we barely know of today.

The very best Dracula story I have read besides the original is The Historian by Elizabeth Kosova. Yeah, I've been through that one many times. There are bits I skip over, now, but it's still a good read. I like a long book you can get into and stay in for a long time.

The very best Dracula story I have read besides the original is The Historian by Elizabeth Kosova. I thought that one was excellent. I happened to read a review when it came out and then saw it being pushed next time I was at the bookstore, so i took it home. I gave my copy away, but I will probably read it again someday.

Just started The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers. If you like Lovecraft, you probably will like those, too. I don't remember them too well, so maybe that should be on my reread list.

Alexander Mikaberidze, The Napoleonic WarsDunno if I'll get through this one. Military history generally doesn't interest me. I'm interested in the consequences for people, but the tactics, weapons, etc., it's like reading a catalog of recipes or something. But various other things have piqued my interest in the Napoleonic Wars, and this is supposed to be a good history of them, so I'm giving it a try. An interesting aspect is that Le petit caporal as he was derogatorily nicknamed, ensured that his men never ran out of clay pipes and tobacco.

Rabbits, by Terry Miles. If you're into conspiracies and the dark web, this is it. I'm only a little ways in to this and I am digging it. I know little of the dark web, but you had me at conspiracies.

How has no one written a book about Corn Cob pipes called Cornspiracies? Someone has, but THEY don't want you to know about it. It’s a cornspiracy led by the cherrywood lobby and C.H.U.D.S.

The very best Dracula story I have read besides the original is The Historian by Elizabeth Kosova. I would have to agree. At least for someone like me, that way of telling a story is very effective. Very. Of course the Dan Brown novels and movies are effective in this way. But another great movie of the kind is "The Ninth Gate" starring Johnny Depp, based on a really great but more obscure book. See the movie, then find the book.
