I'm just popping in to say it's another cob story. Amaizing you didn't see it. Is it about Corn Pop and the lifeguard? That is funny, Ron. I bust up every time I have heard the story of the toughest gang banger and the day he met his match.

The very best Dracula story I have read besides the original is The Historian by Elizabeth Kosova. I would have to agree. At least for someone like me, that way of telling a story is very effective. Very. Of course the Dan Brown novels and movies are effective in this way. But another great movie of the kind is "The Ninth Gate" starring Johnny Depp, based on a really great but more obscure book. See the movie, then find the book. I've seen it a couple of times. Great sound. We're not talking about explosions and helicopters here, folks, or music, either (other than the usual incidentals). Some movies just have a great sound, and this is one of them.

You're right about the sound. We rarely appreciate the great sound, but we certainly notice the bad sound.

Reading CJ Box, Joe Picket novels. In the last couple weeks: The Disappeared (2018), Wolf Pack (2019) and half way through Long Range (2020). Then Dark Sky (2021). Then I'll be caught up.

It actually primed me for the trip. I felt like I was familiar with Rome, it's history and various landmarks. But after reading "Inferno", I felt like I didn't get my money's worth from the visit to Florence. There was very little on the tour, but so much in the novel that I would have loved to have seen. I've read all the books except "The Da Vinci Code". Only seen the movie. Someday, I'll have to read the book.

Boy am I in trash city, rereading Bob Lee Swagger. I love that series. Think I have a 1 or 2 of the latest ones yet to read.

The Ninth Gate made a great movie directed by Roman Polanski and starring Johnny Depp in a credible role. With Frank Langella, and a really interesting French gal whos name I cannot recall and Lena Oland as a real jerk.

I just read green eggs and Ham with my granddaughter...well she struggled through reading it, but she did fine.
I highly recommend it!

She is quite the kid, she had an assignment and asked me to help her check a box on the homework chart. From a few years back. thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/5337/deep

Reading Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. There's nothing like the good old classics.

"Zero Fail" by Carol Leonnig. The rise and fall of The Secret Service I cut them slack for the incident in South America because of who they were working for.

After many recommendations, I started reading A Good Man is Hard to Find story collection by Flannery O'Connor. I understand it's supposed to be humor. I had to quit after the second story. In the first story an escaped convict kills his brothers family then his long lost mother. In the second story a 4 year old commits suicide. Not funny.

Some of her stories can have a dark humor to them, but in general they're just dark. "Southern gothic" is her thing.

“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. Excellent book. One of the few I have read twice. I think I need to read it every year.
