Took my wife and pup to a public park this morning. Let Tiffany run wild in the dog park there. Had the place to ourselves. Tiffany had a blast.
The ground was a little wet, so Tiffany ended up getting a lot of dirt/mud on her legs and belly. So, she got a bath. I don't think she's sure if the park was worth it or not. She'll probably sleep most of the day now - after such an exciting morning.

My baby girl seems to have a possible tumor or cyst on her belly in the mammary area...going to see her Dr. tomorrow, so glad he is as wonderful a vet as he is. She is my joy of life.

Duke has the same thing in the same area, the vet said it looked like nothing… took a biopsy that confirmed it, benign. Kind of like a fatty lump.

"Benign lipoma" the doctor says. And, "As tumors go, that's the kind you want." Found out my brother and his family are getting a new puppy in a week or so. Another Golden Doodle, like their 11-yo female. She's got the worst case of "stranger danger" I've seen, so I'm not at all sure how this is going to go. Still, he's a cute li'l critter. Name's Calvin, after the boy in the cartoons.

GSPs are prone to these fatty tumors. Almost invariably benign. Jack has several. They develop in GSPs usually in old age. Best of luck.

Back from the vet...as everyone has said...a fatty tumor and nothing that needs to be removed...she's old and I was concerned about anesthesia...so all is good...thanks everyone.

Indeed! The sad thing is shelling out the bucks for the diagnosis. I had a$1,200.00 diagnosis in that regard. Different issue, but the moment the prognosis came through, my dog acted like she had been miraculously healed… 4 hours earlier, I would have had $1,200.00 more in my pocket. That sucked.

Fortunately, my vet loves the BBQ sauce and rub that I bring him...no charge. Yay another vote for Rudys BBQ

That would be better than funding a veterinarian vacation l.

On a side note, but maybe related… A popular seminar at vet conferences is called “The Profitable Practice.” You can tell a vet has attended these when he starts selling dog food, leashes and collars, and recommending (even “prescribing”) all kinds of vitamins, chews, coat-improvement pills, etc. etc. I’ve seen two different practices slowly price themselves out of the market with those seminars.

Well, that's just bad business. If a vet is "prescribing" unnecessary supplements, there's more wrong with that practice than bad business.
Veterinary hospitals are low profit, high overhead small businesses. If I'm taking care of beloved Spot, I'd like eat, too.

I want them to eat, too, and eat well. But when a smaller-town practice is providing anti-bio pills for $4 that they charge $8.50 for, something is out of whack.

While our vet has a full service hospital (and I mean a FULL service...they got every kind of amazing medical equipment) they are of the mind that if the critter doesn't really need something or a particular procedure, they prefer to go with what is best for the critter, not what is best for their bank account. Our wonderful vets do a lot of pro bono work for people who have critters but unfortunately don't have the income to take care of them. When I see him doing something special for someone else, I am happy to pay a little extra just to get his special kind of love and knowledge of what to do for a dog or cat or horse. The even make house calls when necessary. It is a rare thing to see a doctor who tells you "no, you don't need to this to your dog...dog is too old and you don't need to put the critter through the trauma of a procedure when it really isn't necessary for continued good health" I really am lucky to have such a good team of Doctors who practice great quality care. I told him if he took my insurance I would throw myself up on his table for my procedures. He is that good!

A 100% markup on antibiotics is the norm. It is to cover keeping inventory in date, dispensed, labeled, packaged, and documented properly. Very little is profit. And yes, I've spent too many of my weekends volunteering my skills at vaccination or spay and neuter clinics for pets of indigent people and feral animals in the interest of public health to count. I'll just go eat some lobster and filet mignon on my yacht, now.

Sorry. I’m confused. What does that have to do with a 100%+ difference between clinics?
