Dentists recommend it a lot. For humans, I mean.

I have 2 dogs that are rescues...American Bulldog female, was abused before she was 5 months old. We took her and she bonded with my wife. Was 2 months before she would come near me. She is just over 10 years old now. German Sheperd male was chained in a back yard in California for his first 5 years...so now here he is in Maine 4 years later. Friendliest dog I have ever had...loves everyone and everything.

I need to take the beast for a long walk today. She kept me company in bed for a few days and all of that pent up energy is really showing. I'm glad she's a big dog. If I get too tired to walk back, she can drag me.

Beautiful dogs. I've always wanted a pair of them, but the opportunity hasn't came up yet.

I got the bluesā¦ empty wallet blues.
Came home last night, Duke (normally like tigger) was lethargic, wouldnāt lift his head up, wouldnāt eat, got him to drink. This morning he wouldnāt come downstairs with the wife, slept in. I woke up and thought he might have died, as he was still and not moving. He was scared to go down the stairs unsure of his ability, came down very slow.Took him to the animal hospital, most of them are overloaded. He looked a bit better, still lethargic when we got there.
Doc called, we blew through $200 for the initial visit, bloodwork will now be $480. If we decide to continue with x-rays it will be more.
I think he will snap out of it after the money is burned through.
This happened with Bella years ago after a slew of inconclusive tests, she had a miraculous recovery right after I paid that $700 bill.

Yup, that is pretty normal...but they are family and you spend the money regardless.

Well, better to pay the money and have him be okay than pay the money and lose him despite the effort. Hope it works out.

This is the first serious visit for Duke, I have had him for eight years. If I had doggy insurance that they sell for $15 a month X 96 months, that would have costed me $1,400 dollars, so I am ahead of going that route.
But then again, if I put $1400 when bitcoin launched, Duke could ride on the Gulfstream with me.š

Dog health insurance is a scam. It barely pays for anything. We had it on our last 2 dogs and learned our lesson. We have about $2800 in our 6 year old Yorkie.

My dog insurance outfit is GFCWLOEVWN. Good food, clean water, lots of exercise, vet when needed. Expensive but seems to work.

Duke has slightly elevated kidney numbers, elevated white blood cell count. The urinalysis didnāt show anything that the bloodwork didnāt show. X-Rays next and a stay at the hospital on a antibiotic and IV through the night.
Not in critical shape by any means, he is just a sick dog.
I hope they find the issue before they run out of tests.

Veterinarian care has become more costly than I can afford. I have a friend who is a competent Vet tech, small critters and horses. Over the years she has helped me and I her so that is the best I can do.

Hit the 3K mark tonight. 1 K for tonightās stay with fluids, he seems at 70%, if it is the same tomorrow, I am bringing him home.
This sucksā¦ matches my tax bill. 6K, put a match to it.

Iām glad Duke is back with his family. Iām a cynic, of course, but I suspect the vet has attended those āProfitable Practiceā seminars at vet conferences. Maybe more than one or two. Ignore me. But bless you for taking such good care of the guy.

But bless you for taking such good care of the guy. I donāt doubt that one bit. We had the family discussion about going forward from here, we love our dog, but with hindsight I wish we had waited till Monday to take him to the vetā¦ they may have well told us to take him to the animal clinic, but all the tests at the hospital would have been cheaper at the vet. From here on out, yearly blood labs for Duke at the vet, and let them handle it. It is like the difference of an office visit versus the emergency room.
