Cheers peeps. I'm pretty sure it won't be long. Poor Kate was in tears all day, only to have to relive that again in the near future. I'm sorry Paddy, It always hurts when our pets come to this stage. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Our Great Dane pup just got home from being neutered. One teste was undescended so it was a little more involved but he's resting and glad to be in his bed.

My Malamute, rest his soul, went into the vet for this procedure a happy go lucky 6-8 month old. He was eager to trot to the back with the vet tech sure he was in for a treat. 6 hours later they had to have my wife come back and coax him out of the kennel because he was sure they were going to take something more from him if he let them touch him. I do miss that old boy!

I was awake all night watching him. Lol

@darin, yep! Mine hated vets for the rest of his life. We only had one vet, his last, that he trusted.

I do miss that old boy! We had a female ALaskan Malamute from 1987 until 2005. She was a big girl at 120 pounds top weight. How I loved her. Everybody she came in contact with loved her. Bad guys thought she was a danger and she could be if one had the wrong attitude. They are the best dog pal on the planet. The only problem is they can be hell on livestock. I have so many humorous stories about her. "Gertrude" was her name.

There are a lot of smart dogs, but none of them are as good a judge of character as the Collie.

Sadly, we had to take our English Shepherd, Maverick, on his last car ride yesterday afternoon. He had a good long run at 16 yrs, but was in decline and took a bad turn this past week. He was only with us for three years, but I knew him most of his life, as he was the hunting companion of a good friend who passed a few years ago. I hope he is in happier hunting grounds, pointing birds once again for my friend.

16 is quite a run for a dog that size. Like Bob said, he looks like a good boy. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you. He had a good long run. I still expect to see him greeting me whenever I enter the room.

My next to last “passed” dog had a distinctive gait. It was a couple of months after she passed that I stopped hearing her come down the hall.

Maverick looked like a faithful ole gent, R.D.. I'm so sorry for your loss. God gives dogs such a short lifespan so we can know the joy of so many wonderful friendships, but the price is the emptiness we feel when they move along to wait for us. I've sent some mighty fine little souls on that same journey, I know they'll help Maverick, as he travels his own path.

It seems like a month does not go by that one of our forum brothers loses a beloved pup.

One of our drivers delivering to a patient on the reservation was attacked yesterday by a dog 45 stitches, not from the patients dog, but by a neighbors dog.
After seeing the pack attack on a yearling calf a couple weeks ago, I am taking a more wary eye on dogs that I do not know.

After seeing the pack attack on a yearling calf a couple weeks ago, I am taking a more wary eye on dogs that I do not know. It doesn’t pay to forget that they ARE dogs, after all. And dogs in a pack can be a dangerous entity, for sure. I suspect that you are dealing with a lot of dogs that are maybe one step, if that, above being feral. Most of us don’t have dogs that qualify for that distinction, happily. I think we tend to well-trained, family oriented pups. Just my opinion…
