Spent the day doing inside odds 'n ends - putting tobacco shipment away, restoring an old Medico, making chili for dinner. The rain finally stopped. Over 5 inches since Tuesday night. The gardens are sufficiently watered. I've smoked Haunted Bookshop (twice), Three Friars and, now, Night Train in the Thursday cob.

Having a mix of Eight State Burley and LC Virginia-Burley in the Wednesday cob. Did that make the Eight State Burley "simmer down"? Actually, it worked out nicely. There's plenty of topping in the Eight State to stretch and subdue it little. And the Va-Bur kind of keeps things in balance. I'm going to do this with the rest of my open tin - about an eyeballed 50/50 mix.

Finishing some Newminster Flake I had put down earlier, while some Brown Bogie dries a bit. Fizzy water and bitters to wash it down.

Going to take me about a tin to get really familiar with the Riverboat Gambler. In briar, it's sweeter and shows the profile of the Turkish leaf very well. In a cob, it can be a blast you with white burley mostly with supporting Virginia and whispers of the perique/Turkish. Definitely more nicotine strength in there then it originally let on. Runowski blends are my "Arcadia blends."

The birdseye isn't as well-defined on the other side. This one came from the same shop. Bought them on separate visits. I think they were each about $30-35, couldn't say no.

You should visit that shop more often. The shop is in the city where my daughter and son-in-law lives. It's about 3 hours from our home. Son-in-law and I go there nearly every time we visit them. Sometimes a pipe comes home with me, sometimes just a few tins of tobacco. Bonus - there's an Irish pub/restaurant right across the street.

I had intended to start the morning with some G&H Black Irish Twist in my bent billiard meer. Cut and prepped it, and let it sit for about an hour but it still needs some more drying time. Smoking some Peretti D-7485 in the lattice meer instead. A good blend for this overcast drizzly morning.

Today I thought I'd finally try my Escudo. Thought I'd try folding and stuffing for the first time. Not sure how it's working out. Seems a little hard to keep lit. I usually run the flakes out.
