Today I thought I'd finally try my Escudo. Thought I'd try folding and stuffing for the first time. Not sure how it's working out. Seems a little hard to keep lit. I usually run the flakes out. Contrary to what people (for some reason) tell you on the internet (see the irony here?) flakes and coins are not meant to be smoked by being folded and stuffed into a pipe. Go ahead and rub it out well and make sure to dry it a good 15-20 minutes first. I'm smoking some C&D John Marr in an MM Old Dominion Richmond cob with reed stem. yes, a lot of people seem to have different opinions on this.

Never had luck with the fold and stuff method myself. I Like to rub it out and load after its dried, sometimes with the help of the microwave (10 seconds).

I'm a fold and stuff guy. Once I've folded it, I give it a bit of a twist in either direction before stuffing it. It splinters the flakes a bit, which leaves more "tinder" sticking out to catch fire. That's my story, anyway, and I'm sticking to it.

If you follow tobacco manufacturer's literature dating back 100+ years, and speak with some of them even, you'll come to see that flake tobacco is flake because it was pressed plug. Plug marries the tobacco better and then is sliced for convenience into flake. It's often then further tumbled into ribbon mixture for easiest convenience but left in flake format for presentation and to leave some fun for the end user. Numerous manufacturers through the years got complaints by smokers that "they couldn't smoke the flake that well" and well, the manufacturers either tell the customers you're not supposed to smoke a whole flake, just as you don't stuff a plug in your pipe or they started rubbing the flake themselves to avoid all the complaints. All that said, you're going to do what you like and smoke how you like it, 20 relights be damned! lol You may wish to try stuffing an entire rope in your pipe as well. (All jokes here, I really mean smoke it how you like) But they really are not meant to be folded up and smoked that way. I'm smoking C&D Eight State Burley in an MM Mark Twain cob. It's already been way too busy a week for me, a 15 hour day and calls throughout the night last night when a core router went down 3x.
