I started using one I bought 20 years ago and had forgotten about leaving it in a drawer all these years.
I have a heap 'o pain in a knee which inflames the tibia below and ankle. I have nights which have been saved only by combining alcohol, Percocet, acetaminophen, THC and whatever else I can scrape together. I mean up and out of bed six time a night to walk offf the pain.
SOO, my friend, Cassandra, a "Healer", suggested a "TENS Unit". Then I remembered I bought one long ago for lower back pain but never used it.
After research of nerve layout and checking device settings on You-Tube, I attached to electrodes and let her buck!
Man, r-e-l-i-e-f... and I mean Tammy Wynette was singing it to me like the angel she is. The pain stopped! and I can sleep undisturbed at night.
Perhaps some of you use a similar device but for those unfamiliar with this marvel, "Transcutaneous Electro Neural Stimulator". Battery powered device linked to electrodes and with refined controls allowing for stimulation of neve pathways to block pain signals. This eliminates the need for medications with serious side effects.
If anyone present has chronic muscular or orthopedic pain, this is worth trying. The units are available on-line and the prices have come way down over the past twenty years.
Anyone want to share their experiences? I would to learn more about them.

I used one for a while after I blew up my back (multi collapsed, multi herniated) and it did me a world of good.
Also, the most effective Treatment I ever got was acupuncture. So your mileage may vary. Glad to hear you are getting some relief!

The wife uses this unit, and it is a real gamechanger for her. www.quellrelief.com/She has real mobility problems… I didn’t check her hooves and teeth very well when I took her on.

We have one that we've had for years. It works well for sore muscles. I used it a lot after the wreck 2 years ago, in addition to the one at the chiropractors office. My wife bought a foot TENS unit that was supposed to be good for my neuropathy, but with the titanium rod in my leg it's torture. Makes me forget the burning feet immediately though.

Is that the same thing pro athletes use when recovering from an injury? I hear them calling it a "stim" unit.

I posted on a Dating Website, "...must have most of her teeth, at least one good eye and does not spit tobacco." No replies.

After time though Ron, your electromagnetically charged leg will be quite attractive.

One of our instructors at the dojo is a nurse and when I had hurt my shoulder, she recommended one. It has offered a lot of relief in the general area that was injured. Another one of our instructors uses one too for his back. I think I paid less than $30 for mine on Amazon

My pain at night occurs while in bed not using the leg. Why that should be so painfull is hard to understand but it has kept me from sleeping for a long time. This make all the difference

Up every two hours trying to walk off the pain. Hard to get serious pain medication owing to the new world of addicts etc. This is a huge improvement!

I've had a sleep disorder my entire life. I know whereof I speak. If you can start getting good sleep on a consistent basis, you'll probably find some of your other ailments improving, too.

I've always wondered about these devices and if they'd work for me. You see I have chronic back pain from collapsing discs which in turn pinch nerves that give me pain in the lower extremities and else where. I can pick one up for about $50 delivered but, I'd hate to waste that amount of money on something that's only going to give me a tingling feeling and not stop the pain. For me to sleep through an entire night means I must take medications through out the day and one particular one causes me more trouble then I think its worth sometimes depending on how much I have to take it. The other will eventually lead to kidney and or liver failure. Anyone with my condition that can tell me it'll work or its at least worked for them will certainly be appreciated. I need to subsidize my SS and making pipes is what helps but, as time goes on its getting harder and harder because it seems instead of extreme pain ever so often its came to roost permenatly nowadays, so any feedback on this TENS unit is welcome.

They really do help. That is all I can say. I turn the power up until it's uncomfortable and after a minute it's OK. I leave it on for about 30 minutes or until the muscle feels like it's had enough. My wife payed about a hundred bucks for ours more than 10 years ago.

Based on what you say Ron, is there a surgery that can offer some relief?
Going under the knife should always be the last resort, my brother and his wife both eventually took the surgical route and both are doing pretty well. He is wrenching on trucks and trailers, beforehand he was walking around like an old broke down man.

I've been to the top neurosurgeons and they all say that the cure is worse than the disease. I can still do a days work, which I wouldn't be able to do after the surgeries, which they won't do anyway. They offer meds that have nasty side effects so I refused. As long as I can tolerate it I will. If it gets too bad I'll take a motorcycle trip to the Grand Canyon.

Been the hospital route...did some good but still I have to take 300+ mg. of morphine a day jus to be able to get out of the bed...Dr. said I was addicted but at 78 he was not too worried...checks my liver and kidney function every couple of months...so far all is really OK.

You are fortunate to have an MD who will support you with that kind of pain management. That does not happen here often. Too much paperwork I guess.

My back isn't as bad as you guys', but it's been bad for 30 years so it qualifies as a bad back. The medicos seem to be a bit flummoxed by it. My last doctor, who recently retired, was so sure it was a stenosis he didn't even send me for an MRI. The new doc thinks it's something else and is trying to get one scheduled, but those places are pretty backed up, apparently, and I have odd hours, so it's a bit of a challenge.
