15.6 grams PS41, very dry, 1 packet (about half a teaspoon) nasal salts for nasal rinse, 1 gram food grade menthol crystals. Grind to a fine powder in a coffee grinder.
One fine WELL medicated snuff! ( I looked up a recipe and broke it down by weight to match what I had.)
I'm going to cut the menthol in half next time

My first attempt at doctoring up rustica went straight to the back of my head and felt like I torched my optic nerves. It finally settled down, but it made my teeth chatter.
If you really get into it, I'd try it with some whole leaf. It's a whole lot cheaper and you can make a ton of it to sample different recipes

I use Leafonly.com for my whole leaf, but fair trade tobacco is good too. Burleys are going to be your best bet nicotine wise, unless you want to go with Rustica, which is potent. It also depends on the scent you're going for. Some are just more potent in the nose than others. My last batch was done with some Brazilian and Cameroon. It was almost black and incredibly earthy, but Maduro cigar like. It played well with anise and vanilla I added to it.
Alkalizers do wonders for the nicotine. Just a small pinch added to water and then mixed in with your flour will make a huge difference. I just stir it every 1-2 days until the ammonia smell doesn't fry my eyeballs. An easy one to make at home: baking soda on a cookie sheet in the oven @ 200 for about an hour. Just a little is all you need.
When in doubt, add a pinch of Rustica! Haha

So that blend I made has too much menthol for me, I like to taste/smell my tobacco in it. Because of this, I took some old White Knight I had, and some mild burley from the Habar order I got and ground that up. Then mixed them in equal parts with the PS41 mix I made. It cut the menthol to a more manageable level and added a very nice smoky flavor/scent to the snuff. I like this one!

I've switched to Pickling Lime, Calcium Hydroxide, for my alkalizer. The ammonia that comes off could knock out an elephant! 😅

After a day rest in a sealed jar, and then cracking it open, it'll take your breath away! I'm glad a little goes a long way. I havent been able to find it at my Walmart since early last year. |

So now I have a question. What is the best way to add salt and alkali? I've only done it once and that was to take a salt packet for a Netipot (nasal rinse) and add it dry to the mix. I've read about hydrating it and adding the liquid to the tobacco powder, but I haven't tried it.

Yeah, we got something awful for a few days. Much better today, thanks. Snuff smells good again. I can't wait to get back into my supply. I have about 10 sorts with me and I need MOAR variety! So I'm in can wait to try something mode now. On that note, I took 9 grams of the Wilke's Peanut Butter & Chocolate I have in my cellar, dried it a bit because its god and moist, added a half packet of nasal rinse salts, half a gram or so, and half a gram of Menthol for a mild menthol punch. Ground it in the grinder. I dried it some more because I wasn't happy with the grind and as moist as it was it wouldn't grind fine enough for my taste, then ground it some more. First thoughts, AWESOME...

I wish I could find a good PB snuff. I don't like Toque's. It reminds me of green peanuts, not roasted ones.

And I have no medicated snuff with me. I thought I had thrown a box of Red Label Black in with my stuff, but no. I picked up a can of Garrett to space out what I have left. Going on seven weeks with my overnight bag. |
