Watched the first 5 episodes of reacher. Gotta say I'm enjoying it so far. That's the first book. I read it years ago but it was recognizable. I I remember the "9mm subsonic" comment from the book. So, we have about 2 dozen seasons to go.

We watched Fruitcake Fraud yesterday that was about the controller of Texas famed Collins street bakery on Discovery+. The guy and his wife burned through 16 million dollars before his actions came to light...it is a crazy story! 1 hour 38 minute runtime. www.amazon.com/Fruitcake-Fraud-Season-1/dp/B09MBJXBFQ

That is a shame. Terrible they did not discover the embezzlement sooner. This is why companies need independent audit examinations.

That is a shame. Terrible they did not discover the embezzlement sooner. This is why companies need independent audit examinations. All of the other people in the company come across as very humble, decent people. This company has existed well over 100 years and I reckon that everything rolled good until it didn’t, these sheep were ripe for the shearing. I imagine they have a robust auditing on a regular basis now. It is hard to imagine 16 million from a bakery fleeced before the sirens went off. Sucks it played out this way, tough lesson learned.

It's a really, really big bakery. But still..

Even the most prepared and careful organizations get taken by the creativity of some crooks in their employ. Here is a case I recall from my "youth" whilst working for the old Bank of America's Security Department. The Castro Street Branch in San Francisco in the early 1970s was quite a busy one. Active merchant neighborhood with solid middle class residents who were active savers. The manager of that branch somehow installed a computer program in the old Fortran operating IBM 360s. It worked something like this. For every $200,000 that flowed through that branch's books, either in or out, debit or credit, a very small amount of money like $0.05 credited to an account he had control of. After some years, he had amassed something like $350,000. It took Bank Security & Operating Loss Investigations years to discover this. The numbers being credited affected the Trial Balance of the Branch in so small a way that is was written off by the accounting people as a "rounding error". Some error, eh? Caught he was and put away for a long time. One did not rob Mr. Giannini's bank and get away to tell about it.

I would love to get together with you. 😉 Seeing as how I live about 1500 miles from you and I only go to Texas when I'm forced to because of funerals or weddings, don't count on it anytime soon.

Not saying that the show was better than the book, but the casting made Agugustus NcRae and Cw Call come to life just like I imagined whyile reading. sablebrush52 played his part well.

I have been watching the old series, "Life and Times of Wyatt Earp" with Hugh O'Brien. Holds up surprisingly well over the decades since the 1950s when I first watched it. That is due to good writing and Hugh's personality. He was also excellent in "The Shootist".

He was in the John Wayne movie "The Shootist". Maybe you could watch it again. The Faro Dealer who makes the record shot early in the movie and is one of the three guys Books shoots it out with at the end.
