Not trying to be funny, but Steens cane syrup mill while cooking would give employees 2 cases of Steens every year, one year 2 dogs got loose in the mill and fell into the syrup vat, they kept on cooking, that year no one wanted his 2 cases! Love me some Steens! Remember The Jungle was based on real life. Pure Leaf "Soylent" Lard.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration. A friend retired last year as an OSHA Safety Inspector for Exxon. He would travel the world trying to keep Exxon employees from having accidents. His comments indicate there is much carelessness still.
A employee accidently falling into a crucible is hard to believe. Possible certainly. Suicide? Murder? Maybe.

They said he was trying to get a sample for testing.

Yeah, sounds like a robot job to me, too. But there are always “shortcuts.” Farming and ranching are full of them and many result in serious “accidents.” In shooting it used to be that an unintended shot was called an “accidental” discharge. The tendency now is to term them “negligent discharges.” A much better description.

Thinking about starting my own firm with my brothers in hazard mitigation. “The Dukes Of Hazard” consultants.

The Mob is into hazard mitigation, too. You mitigate hazards by giving them what they want.

Been five weeks since a supply run so drifted into town today. Got my ears lowered and had a Mex lunch. Chicken mole. Excellent. Diesel was $5.25. I should be vittled for a nice long time now. Getting to hate going off-ranch more and more.

Getting to hate going off-ranch more and more. You and me both. I hate driving to town. Especially so with the Town of Toad, NM. Hot, congested, angry people, empty stores. That is where my pharmacy and bank are. So, I have to make the journey. Diesel is $5.50 here. Not sure when my next trip will be.

Cold snap/Hot spell. We seem to be hopscotching our way thru late spring. Last week we had highs in the 50s and today it's 100°F. More on the way next week. Variety is the spice of life!

Feels like a hundred here today. The heat index is going to be over 107 all next week. You can tell that James Russell Lowell didn't live in Texas.

111° is hotter than it was where I was working yesterday trailboss. Also after much thinking and changes this last Winter and Spring ditched some very unhealthy things mainly employer and type of work and lifestyle. Had to change screen name also. Much better quality of life. I actually have one now! Ditched the on call 24/7 and all the unpleasant stuff for much less time gone from home. Much more time with family. Pay is much less but wife is very happy to have me home every night. More time with Little Guy. Cut my blood presser by 1/3. Also want to say many thanks too a lot of members on this forum. It has been a long overdue change needed and I received much positive encouragement from several of you guys and gal here. Thank You

I hope Charlie gets some relief in CO, but I wouldn’t count on it. We got up to 104° this afternoon. The pups and I loafed inside and let it sizzle, which it did. Outside chores will just have to wait, although there is some critical mowing I will have to tackle tomorrow, in the cool of the morning maybe. Just about the best recent decision I made was to A/C the house last summer. Sure paying off now. Stay cool ever’body. Or try.

Then around 5:00 PM clouds cover formed, temperature dropped to a more tolerable level.

It was 106 today. Had my tooth extracted so no smoking for 24 hours I don’t want to risk a dry socket. I feel fine Thu just a bit of swelling.
