There’s a huge old cottonwood just a few feet from the back door to the big shop. It has a hole about 4 feet of the ground and angling down. Today Eli got very interested in that hole so I knew there was something afoot as he’s never wrong. Yep.

Hard not to love a cooney.
Just in your honor, here is one of my favorite songs.
I keep the song focused on racoons only.

I must be getting old or senile. I swear I’ve been posting every morning after loading my pipes for the office. Sadly I’m realizing this isn’t the case.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Checked on my raccoon this morning, hoping that after being disturbed y’day she would move on. Alas, she is still enjoying her hollow tree den. “She” because I am sure she is. No evidence of babies yet. For her own sake I am hoping she moves on.

My neighbors would wonder why I just don’t terminate them with extreme prejudice. I will not do that. They have as much right to be here as I do. The dogs might be a problem, but I am hoping she and her brood will take a walk as soon as they are able. There are other hollow trees hereabout, to which they are welcome.

Bought a bike on Sunday and today took it for a 9 mile trail ride with a buddy of mine and my son. Get good to get outside for some exercise and fresh air. Never rode before so I think 9 miles is a good start

There are very few things in life about which one can say they are plain and simply good. Riding a bicycle is one of them. Riding a bicycle is good.

I agree my friend, I agree. especially when your teenaged son is excited to do it with you Anytime your teenage son (or Daughter) is excited to do something with you is a win! Agreed. Between the training together 5 times per week, going out once a week to see live music, movie nights and now biking, I’m blessed. The majority of his free time is spent with me. He’s a great young man.

While there is no shortage of raccoons in this country, they have every right to live. Your are likely right in that mama Cooney will shift her babies to another location beyond the dog's reach when she is able to get them together.

Happy Friday Patch! Hope your week has been as nice as mine. Sadly (actually not so sadly) my vacation is over. I got a call from work, my next assignment starts Wednesday. I've been off two weeks; I am ready to go back to work.

Finally able to get a cattleguard over the trench crossing the ditch bank road of our irrigation canal. This has held me up since February. Nothing is accomplished with ease here being so remote. Anyway, had to bushwack about a half mile through a jungle of red willows to reach the top of the canal. No obstructions noted. However, the creek and the irrigation canal are just about one body of water owing to the beaver dams in the creek and water overtopping the bank separating the two bodies of water.
What I would give for a flyover with two 750 pound Mark VII bombs.
Failing that it is hand tools and manpower....

Turkey season here. Coupla nice young men from Louisville KY stopped by the house to ask if they could hunt. (My place is home to many LARGE birds.) Told them they could. They showed me their success later and them came back at dusk with 5# of turkey breasts for me.

I woke up to hear about the tornado that blew through Andover Kansas that is near Wichita. My Nephew lives in Augusta that is five miles from Andover, his glass shop is in Andover, but was mostly spared, they had just received several truckload shipments of thick plate glass for a large commercial project, had it gone through his yard, and the plates were sent off like frisbees...that would be spooky in and of itself.
