Ear infection is coming along well now - doing much better...dosed with a heavy head cold though, which caused little sleep last night. I feel like a zombie today. Hard to concentrate! Hoping for a quick recovery for you. I feel the same, but not because of a head cold. My 50 and 60 lbs dogs believe their comfort at night outweighs mine.

I gotta say, while I would often like to have my dog sleep beside me, I don't let it happen. I'd never sleep.

Anyone have any experience with wild rabbits? We have a little brown bunny with a white tail in the yard and we don't know if it is a good or bad thing. We do enjoy watching her. She just runs around for no apparent reason. I suppose that a hawk will make it moot. I searched Google for images and got this. I also asked about how fast they multiply. I hate Google sometimes.
This is what I was searching for.
I had to specify NE Texas bunnies.
As long as they're not munching your garden or something, live and let live. I mean, there was that one dangerous rabbit, but it got done for by the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, so I think you're safe. Yeah, everything I can find says to just leave them alone since we don't have a garden and most of my wife's flowers are toxic or downright poison. He's fun to watch. I'm sure the hawks and the local eagle will spot him soon.

This one looks like a peaceful bunny, but it may be like the "mostly peaceful" burning police station riots. I'll have to keep a close eye on it. If it shows up in a black mask I'll apply 450 Bushmaster until it seizes to be a threat. I will make a couple of throat protectors today.

Cottontail. Harmless but highly prolific. They have to be since they feed almost all of the wild critters we have. You can pull them out of hats but they tend to leave fleas.

Big day today! An Excavator due here shortly. THis one has a rotary mower (Brush Hog) mounted on the front boom so it can mow side to side. We will clear irrigation ditch banks of the water loving plants which sprang up since the last cutting end of May. THis is our effort to deny Beaver subversives cover for their infiltration and illegal diversion of irrigation water meant for local farms. We have tried détente. Now is the time for action!!! Can’t you set traps? We had a Beaver infestation in our neighborhood damaging trees. We’ve sporadic Beaver issues in the past but this time they were damaging trees away from the shoreline last fall and we hired a trapper who got them gone in just a few days. I wrapped the trees that could damage the house with chicken wire just in case they return when we’re away. Neve been able to find a trapper who follows through. State Game & Fish used to set traps for us but lost interest. Very hard to get any kind of service from the State of NM. Just not interested. No people.

Almost every week someone gets shot walking down Youree St in Shreveport, but they still walk down Youree at 2am. And at least once a month someone is arrested for having sex with animals. Now the mayor just found out that he's not eligible to run for re-election because he's registered to vote in a different precinct than he lives in. We only get the news from there.

Shreveport has never been the Athens of the South. Or the Paris, for that matter. Maybe Mogadishou?

Well, I get to work from home tomorrow. Didn't want to, I was saving that day for Friday, but I got home to an AC unit that isn't working; at all.... My wife actually called me about it during the day, and I asked her to call our guy because I didn't want to deal with the landlord. I used to do bookkeeping for a great AC tech who owns his company. He's booked till Friday. No good when you live in the Phoenix metro zone!
So when I got home I opened up the unit and poked around a bit. Turned out the 3 amp fuse on the control board was blown. 3 hours and 4 stores later I finally found the right amperage fuses to buy. Sadly, as one can expect when a fuse blows the new one blew as soon as I turned the unit on, telling me that something else is wrong.
I bit the bullet and called the landlord; Last time I called him for AC he installed a window AC instead of fixing the main one, I had my guy do that later because the window AC doesn't do a thing for the bedrooms. Especially since we have to keep doors closed to keep various pets from being harmed by other pets. It's a wife thing, don't ask...
My landlord surprised me. Not that I have a bad landlord, I actually really like the folks who own this place. The problem is they are just as financially stressed as everyone else these days so I didn't expect them to do much. They called the guy they use, he will be here tomorrow. My wife has doctor appointments all day o I'm working from home to be here for the guy.
Sorry for the long post, I needed to rant so you guys got the ear(eye?) full.

You can't concentrate. When I've stayed in Albuquerque we were in Cedar Crest, which I believe is higher than the city and we still needed AC in August.

Shreveport has never been the Athens of the South. Or the Paris, for that matter. Maybe Mogadishou? It's a shame because there are a lot of people who are trying to turn it around and there are great city wide efferts to stop youth crime and such. We have to stay downtown for 3 days for my wife's surgery. Glad Louisiana has reciprocity with Texas.

Americans were different before A/C. Particularly Southern and SW’n Americans. I remember a corny line from THE PROFESSIONALS (the Burt Lancaster one). Two riders in the blazing Sonoran desert.
“What kind of men can live in this place?”
“Men who learn to endure.”
Bad script; true words.

I remember saying something about “the good old days”
My mom quickly told me that the only good thing about the old days is that they were in the past.
She used to wash clothes down at the river for starters. I like building a fire to smoke some meats, don’t really want to do it to fry an egg.
If we didn’t have A/C, I sure wouldn’t live here, the days on God’s green earth are numbered, I don’t want to look back on life as a living hell 4 months out of every year.

I remember living in Texas before air conditioning and it sucked. Between 5 and 10 years old we had a breezeway between the house and the garage that was concrete and I would lay on that concrete in the afternoon. We had attic fans and we would adjust the breeze by which windows we opened. When I stayed with my sister in Kilgore the bed I slept in was right next to a 48 inch window fan. When we got our first window unit it was amazing! None of the homes had any insulation back then. The older houses built before WW2 had high ceilings and big windows that made it a lot better than our little houses with 8 foot ceilings. There weren't any affordable ceiling fans either. In school the papers stuck to our arms and we dripped sweat on our books.

More and more, John, New Mexico sounds like an empty house. It is a place which operates differently than much of the western world. If interested, you might watch this episode of "Route 66". Produced in 1961. It is as true in 2022 as it was then. I know all these local characters. This was filmed just down the road from where I am.

14’ ceilings with big, wooden, slow-turning ceiling fans. Huge glasses of tea full of ice. Ice-man with tongs, leather shoulder pad, and huge square chunks of ice brought by horse-drawn wagon. The Old Days, not necessarily Good but all we had…

The Old Days, not necessarily Good but all we had… Last week was a hot one and at the local store a pallet of bagged ice had been delivered and was awaiting transfer into the freezer for sale. One of our local characters immediately lay down upon it and rested until told to move off.

There's a geomagnetic level G1 storm from a coronal mass ejection from the sun all day today. Radiation beaming at the Earth and out into space at about 1.8 million MPH.

I drove 45 miles to town today, filled a cart with groceries, went to the checkout and NO WALLET. Only option was to drive the 45 miles back home. Wallet waiting in its place.
