Hike at 5am... check Coffee & Breakfast after... check
Headed home for a pipe and cigar now, with more coffee.
Dog baths, car bath (inside and out), reorganizing tools for work, and then finding a leak on the roof of the condo.
Hoping to just rest tomorrow

Hardly seems worth it, having to pay all that tax.

Hardly seems worth it, having to pay all that tax. When scratch offs started before the lottery happened, the promoters in California basically said that the taxation derived would solve school funding issues. Every election after that when I lived there, school funding proposals were on the ballot in every election as I recall.

I ran across this on an anti tobacco site today.
“ 1997 – Tobacco companies slammed with major lawsuits – ordered to spend billions of dollar on anti-smoking campaigns over the next 25 years predominantly focused on educating the young on dangers of smoking.”
If indeed the timeline for spending billions has a 25 year sunset, 2022 is that year. The anti’s sucking on the teat are surely going to scream bloody hell and demand that the gravy train needs to be refueled.
Never mind… I looked up the master tobacco settlement on Wikipedia:
“ Annual Payments, beginning April 15, 2000 – $183.177 billion estimated through 2025. 9 billion per year from 2018 into perpetuity.[19]”

9 billion per year is saddled on a lot fewer people than it was in ‘97.

Just kicking back today, my son came over and delivered and set up an adjustable bed frame for our recently acquired Tuft and Needle mattress that we had bought a fixed frame for.
“ Dad, with your leg needing elevation for the next six weeks, mom’s legs and hips, and your acid reflux, this is the ticket… besides, Liberty (our granddaughter) does not have a proper frame for her bed, so this is a trade.”
With the head lift, foot lift, and zero gravity setting… with just a sample test, lying flat sucks. I think bedtime just moved up an hour or so.😉

Nice with the remote, works well with the current crop of mattresses.

Dumb story of the day…. i.stuff.co.nz/timaru-herald/news/129291176/convertible-hidden-smoking-pipe-accidentally-sold-to-nineyearold“ Ministry of Health spokesperson, Jane Chambers said she was not aware of an incident like this occurring before, “this is a unique case, and we have not heard of a similar account.” “We are concerned about children being sold items such as a functioning tobacco pipe, regardless of whether this was a mistake,” Chambers said. “It is hard to tell from the picture if you could class this as a toy, but sale of a toy regulated product, such as a toy smokers pipe is prohibited under s. 42 of the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act, with a $2000 fine. “The Act does not limit the sale of tobacco accessories (which would include a real pipe). However, the Act is being updated, and there is likely to be a select committee process in the coming months, which would be a good opportunity to raise these issues in a submission via this channel.” “sneak a toke collectible tobacco smoking pipe” … key word is toke. Jane Chambers is either dumb as a stump, or dishonest to suggest this is a tobacco pipe. Either way, she would be better suited to stay home and iron her husbands shirts.

Yep… and she views the singular event as a “good opportunity” to further restrict tobacco pipes, even though it was all built on a false narrative.
And the dumb “journalist” dutifully does the bidding.

One other mention of my doc that I forgot to include earlier. I thought it was mildly humorous. I told him I could no longer have red wine for supper as the diuretic effect caused me to get up three or four times at night to pee. His response? “Have it at lunch.” ... Pop believed one should always have an MD older then the patient. ... I used to follow that guideline, but I've reached a point where that is impractical. My doc now is about a year younger than I am. I guess if he ever retires, I will have to give up and put myself into the hands of one of those kids.

They just hired a thug, never any excuse to do that. Too bad the old guy didn’t see it coming and give him a lead injection.

We seem almost overrun by people with severe anger-management issues. Get angry, or even just bored, and hurt somebody. No inoculation for that I guess.
