To be honest, I’ve been giving my guy $15 for a long time. To make up for the fact that I let my hair get unruly before I get it cut. We’re the same age and I don’t want him to retire.

Wife been cutting mine for over 55 years, sent her to Beauty school, only thing she couldn’t do is make me beautiful!! Different levels of abilities by Beauty school graduates. When I met my wife she said “My friend is a beauty school graduate and cuts hair” I ended up looking like the dutch boy on the paint can. Around the ease of the pandemic, Fantastic Sam’s went from $15 to $20. I always give a $6-$7 tip.

My haircuts cost me about $30-$40 every two to three years. I cut every two to three weeks to keep it short, the cost is a new set of cheap clippers when we wear the last one out. I put the #4 on and start mowing. When I am satisfied I have my 23 year old daughter trim up the edges and around the ears and I'm done.

Ugh. Town day. Errands, supplies, haircut. I hate it. Everything cost noticeably more than my last trip to town. My usual $160 worth of supplies was $190. My barber raised his price from $12 to $15. Then I lost my prescription meds in the parking lot. That’s what I get for going into town! (Some kind soul found the meds, took them into the pharmacy and they are mailing them to me.) I sympathize. I hate going into Taos in summer. Too darn hot, too crowded with visitors, too much traffic, too many sour attitudes. Then the price increases! Winter is less of a hassle. Now that the ski resort has been taken over by a Hedge Fund and rebuilt to high luxury standards most the skiers remain up there and do not crowd the town. Some do but not as many as in summer.

Not to detract from John’s nice post, but Cajuns have their own culture and do not need the “Southern thing.”

Not to detract from John’s nice post, but Cajuns have their own culture and do not need the “Southern thing.” I will leave that to them to decide. For me, the South represents certain values not always shared elsewhere. Courtesy, respectfulness, duty to others, for example.

John and Bob thank you for the respect, when I joined the service I was amazed at the rudeness and lack of shooting skills by the Northern boys, they were smart though. Our Company Commander an OldNavy Chief appointed a Chicago boy of a different persuasion hated the Southern boys and if you were weak he jumped on it. I never gave any reason to be hassled, one night about 3 am I went to his bunk and tapped on his forehead, he opened one eye, stiffened and I told him to knock off the old boys from the South crap or the next visit would be very unpleasant. He changed somewhat it was bearable and the Mormon boy he picked on got a little better. I had made up my mind enough was enough, I wasn’t raised to be cruel to people!

I cut my own hair, no charge. I tired shaving my head once. Ended up with clumps in the back. Folks said I looked like a Chemo patient.

Picked more tomatoes and peppers this morning, a daily activity, lately. The extended weather forecast is calling for slightly warmer and drier conditions for the Fall. Will this mean an extended growing season? The interior of the Upper Peninsula had spotty frost overnight. Hmm...

trim back/sides of neck myself, two mirrors keep same decent. If bald guy with a ponytail ok for Willie Nelson, good for me since live alone. Last time at barbershop, May 2021...grows slow. Come Sept. gals on x-country team have ideas including streaks of school colors, navy & yellow. It's at 4" now. When routine visits, always was good 20% tip.

Had a great day at the outdoor range today. Nice cool day for once. 100 yards with a DPMS "Tactical Precision Rifle" (a glorified AR15), shooting my own .223cal reloads. Fine tuned the scope. This was the last target of the day - ~50 rounds. The squares are 1 1/8 inches.

She's sleeping in the back seat now. She needs some conditioning and better training.
The best part is she'll hold the couch in place for the rest of the day, IF her sister let's her. We took my dog last weekend and when we got back this one wouldn't let her rest. Theyre both pups, both large, and both rambunctious.

Back to the snake boots. August seems to be Rattlesnake month here. I walk through tall weeds and grass on irrigation duties. Hard to see my slithering friends on the ground since they are well camouflaged. With my swollen legs and feet the boots no longer close but give about 85 per cent coverage.
I try to do my work mid day when the hottest. The snakes should be in their holes and nests staying cool. Early morning is the worse when they come out for a sunbath. Evening is when they come out again to go hunting. So, I try to time around them. Thankfully, here we have mostly smaller Prairie Viridis and not the Diamondback Atrox.
