I just bought an air fryer. Hoping it will save time and money. I see that some here use them so that's recommendation enough for me!

A lot of the prepared foods have directions for microwave, and conventional bake. A good rule of thumb in regard is to drop down 50 degrees, and cut the time by 20% compared to conventional baking. My wife says this has been handy. My preferred method is in a few clicks south of medium in a frying pan, a bit higher than rendering lard. It cooks off the fat but the yield seems better. Two cups of coffee later, bacon perfection.

Both are great and there will be no complaining from this diner!

Good Morning Patchers,
Cool and dark here in northern New Mexico. Cloudy. Nice to have moisture again. So green. The choke cherries, plums, apricots, all are ripe and ready. The apples and pears need more time. It is good to be here and to be alive!!!
Hope your weekend is filled with wonder and joy! Or, at least you get the rest you deserve.

46° this morning. The autumn slant of light is starting. The buffalo will begin their rush to lay on fat for the winter. Were they still here the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne would be planning their Big Hunt for the winter larder.

Our peaches are hard 1 inch balls. The pears are tiny too. Not bad flavor though.

Mostly they are over on Ted Turner's ranch and the Tiwa Pueblo in Taos. We do have bears and they have the same issue.

Also, my ten inch iron skillet which I cooked with for almost 50 years, well, it cracked, long. Very sad.
I have a 12 or 13 inch Lodge which is heavier. So I am ok but that ten was a nice size.

Oh, woe! I feel your pain. I have a lot of my g-g’mother’s ironware. I feel like an apostate as I use a lot of stainless/copperbottom stuff now.

How did that happen? Is that a thing? I have a bunch of well seasoned cast iron. I believe it was overheated on the new electric stove. cracked from the center to the top of the lip. It is also badly warped. I would have welded it with castalloy but with the warping, not worth it. Oh, I can use it for cornbread and other oven stuff. It leaks oil on the stove top when heated. Lodge recommends not going higher than Medium heat.

This is the time of year when I load for my deer rifles. This is one of the fruits of my labors today: a 7mm-08 with a Nosler 140-gr BT. The quarter shows what will cover a group of them at 100Y. This particular rifle is ready to go. I guess it doesn’t take much to make me happy…

We have one but it's got marble over the burners with an induction hotplate on top.

This particular rifle is ready to go. I guess it doesn’t take much to make me happy… Please educate me and this is a question. What makes the 7mm-08 superior to the .270 Winchester? I often wondered. It’s not “superior,” just different. Here’re some differences… The 7mmm is .284 and the 270 is .277. Max FPS for this class of bullet in the 270 is about 2900FPS and for the 7-08 about 2800FPS. The 7mm can use a short action and the 270 requires a long action, therefore a heavier rifle. Recoil in the 270 is considerably brisker than the 7mm. I’ll get arguments on this but my observations seem to indicate that the 7-08 has the accuracy edge. There are no flies on either, but I’ll take the 7-08 any day over a 270. (My Remington Model Seven weighs about 6.5 pounds. A 270 under 8.0 pounds is very rare. Plus, my M7 still has way less recoil and hits just as hard.) Hope that helps.
