Some years back, there was a firearms training school/ self defense operation located in Memphis that had an extraordinarily high number of former students that defended their lives from deadly attacks.
As much as I enjoyed staying at the Peabody hotel, checking out Beale street, Sun Studios, Graceland, and the Lorain motel (site of MLK assassination), I am not in a hurry to go back there.

I've used a Nikon D700 for a very lo ng time.12megapixels. I get great photos for my own use. I don't do extremely large enlargements and the format doesn't allow me to crop. But I got used to that. To replace today you're spending thousands. And that's not counting lenses. In any case the human eye has a visual range of 576 megapixels. So for personal use, I'm entirely happy.

Oh and the new Apple iPhone 14 ProMax main cam has 48 megapixels. With a whole lot of other features. One wonders why people even buy cameras anymore.

The phone really can't fit as good a lens. Many of the current cameras have features that phones couldn't imagine.

The ducks will miss you. We stayed with the ducks in Orlando. They weren't as impressive as the hotel itself. Room was $500/night in 1980. (company was paying). My wife was at a convention and I spent a lot of time exploring the hotel. Absolutely perfect.

My hotel room was paid for also, all of us from work were there for a national truck roadeo competition, the Veep about crapped his pants when he got the tab, all the drivers drained every bit of liquor in the in-room bars.
"next year, let me know what you drink, and I will buy whatever you want from the liquor stores, do you guys know how much each one of them bottles cost?"
It was kinda silly really, as every meal was paid for, drinks and cigars on the house....we were a thirsty bunch.
I still managed to stumble my way into 3rd place in nationals, pulling doubles.

I was looking at the flooding in California and I saw that one place had 0.2 inches in one day , which was 10 times the 0.02 that was the previous record. This boggles my mind. If we got the full average LA rainfall we would be in a disastrous drought. 2 years of that and all the trees would die. We were in bad shape but 9 inches of rain has us out of the drought and everything is looking good. The weather has turned and fall seems to be a bit early. Beautiful weather in NE Texas right now.

Yep. Fall seems on its way. Today, for the first time in many weeks, I took the dogs for a nice long walk. 65° as our high is quite a bit different from 111 on Wednesday. Jack is now just about completely deaf but he stayed close on our walk and had a great time. Eli ALWAYS has a great time and in the mile or so that Jack and I did he did about ten.

Went with grandma and my two daughters out to a country parade and fair this morning. Got relatively hot pretty fast. By about 11:45am we were about ready to leave and it was already 81 with a real feel of 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Had a jumbo pork tenderloin sandwich, a lamb gyro, and some peach and strawberry ice cream.

The town up of the road had their 150th anniversary Founders Day today with a parade, time capsule and bands, etc. We weren't up for it so I went to a church fish fry that was really good.

What's the word on the CPAP machine, toshtego ? Thank you for inquiring. So did I, inquire that is. Yes, it left Apria via Fed Ex this past week. Fed Ex promptly lost it owing to "...conditions beyond our control" "No delivery date scheduled". As far as I know it is still in Santa Fe.

My brother was sitting on his porch and texted me a family story this morning.
While I Colorado working I stayed up late playing poker with uncle Gus and uncle Bob and uncle Bob told the following.
He and his buddies decided to go fishing on the Arkansas river and uncle Bob was going to head up the expedition as he knew the best spots. Everyone met at uncle Bobs. He had is camper ready and they were all ready to go when he realized he need to fill his holding tank with water. He hooked up the hose and turned it on and they all decided to have a beer while they waited. Several beers later they decided to take off. Everyone claimed in the truck and away they went. Driving down the highway people kept honking their horns and pointing to the back of his truck. Finally after flipping people off he realized he was dragging his garden hose. When he stopped he noticed the hose bib was connected to the hose. He rapidly returned home to find his basement flooded.

Bedanged if I can find the “movies watched” thread in this mess, so I will just post here. Last night I watched THE NORTHMAN (2022). Large, famous cast, but you won’t recognize any of them in their “Viking transformation”— not Nicole Kidman OR Bjork. Really extraordinary production design which, If it doesn’t win an Oscar (yawn!), there is no justice and Odin will have his revenge. If you are squeamish about on-screen blood and berserker violence, take a pass. Viking stories have been popular on the screen in the last decade, but this one is different, strong medicine, and memorable. You have been warned.
