Back in the early '90s -- like '91 or '92 -- there was a tv movie called The Water Engine, about a poor, no-name inventor who comes up with an engine that runs on water. TNT (or possibly TBS) made it and I think 3 other movies as kind of an early experiment in content creation. One of them was a biopic about Alexander Graham Bell. Anyway, this guy, played by some nerdy-looking actor named William H. Macy, invents the engine, and then gets screwed out of it by Big Combustion, who immediately deep-six it, never to see the light of day again. There have been so many sci-fi movies and stories about corporations buying up new, better technology and burying it to protect their profits that it pretty much has to be true.

I remember people talking about them movies back in the day, but it is hard for me to imagine how a car could be fueled by water… maybe a steam engine.😉

I remember people talking about them movies back in the day, but it is hard for me to imagine how a car could be fueled by water… maybe a steam engine.😉 New hydrogen tech, high efficiency catalysts, 3 volts from a battery pack splits it into hydrogen and oxygen. Burn it in your ice or use the hydrogen in a fuel cell to make electricity.

I think that it might have been a theory (that might have had merit) bandied about at a time where the technology did not exist, and some conspiracy theorists saw value in making a movie.
The issue with “greenhouse gas emissions” will make it a non starter for the greeenie crowd, critics say that if it does work it is 40 years in the future.
“ Hydrogen possesses the NFPA 704's highest rating of 4 on the flammability scale because it is flammable when mixed even in small amounts with ordinary air”. Gasoline which is pretty volatile is 3 on the scale. Faulty O-rings+ hydrogen can turn things nasty real quick, as we saw on the Challenger.
Whether it will work and ultimately be able to use in mass produced cars remains to be seen.
I’m sticking with fossil fuels, they have served me well my whole life, and I have no reason to ever step into California again, since they are outlawing what is still the most cost effective vehicle for me. I say all that realizing that corrupt people are out to make it prohibitively so.

I do not want to be around anyone handling Hydrogen Fuel. Now, if the "fuel" load is water and then split into its atomic parts, ok.

With the new tech, the hydrogen is going to be carried in liquid form. Ammonia is one of the more popular forms but there are others. A catalyst frees the hydrogen for the fuel cell.

He was very prolific. Plus there were hundreds of Irish "Kings" over the years. Then you have the various English royalty putting their cousins in Ireland and giving them estates taken from the previous Irish.

I am certainly not against evolving technology if it can be done safely, and affordably. I am all for electric cars for those that want and can afford them, I am for letting the free market run its course without interference.

But if you keep up with the actual current science you will be amazed. It's possible that in 10 years no one will want a gasoline car. Huge discoveries in physics, chemistry and medicine. People who are alive and healthy in 10 years will live for a much longer time and stay productive into their 120s. Of course if we continue with the current trend we will all be fighting for the limited amount of caves.

If in 10 years no one will want a gasoline car, the market will have determined the outcome.
And Jay Leno will be in a world of hurt.

His daily driver is a Tesla Model S Plaid. And he's waiting for delivery of his Roadster. To him, electric sports cars are just more cars he can collect.

To him, electric sports cars are just more cars he can collect. The three people I have talked with who drive Teslas say they would not want to drive any other car. The handling is just so much better owing to the low COG and the dynamics of electric motors. I have not had the experience so I have no comment about their superiority. it is clear enough the days of internal combustion reciprocating engines are about over. Turbines may be with us for a while longer.

A Tesla costs more than we paid for our last house and some are more than our current house. I'm sure they are as much fun as a Hinckley Picnic boat.

And there lies the reason I don't yet own any electric car. The ones that have the range I want are just too danged expensive. I have no use for a vehicle I can only drive 100 miles before waiting an hour or three to refill the tank". Even these are pretty expensive compared to a good old economy gas burner.

We are in our annual transitional phase. Summers and winters last long here and both can be extreme. Temps can range from -30 to 120°F. Spring and fall tend to be brief. Fall arrives officially next week and an errant blizzard could soon follow. We’ve had them as early as the first week of October, but that’s rare. I’m at 3333ASL, with all the accompanying weather mystery that goes with that! Nights are plunging into the 40s now and we’ve had one at 34° last week. Days still reach up into the 90s. Might actually be nice to have a sudden snowstorm since we are still very dry and plagued with range fires. Where the weather is concerned here we always live in “interesting times.”

Days in the 70s. Nights in the 40s. Irrigation continues for at least a couple more weeks. It has been dry for several days. So, soil moisture dropping fast.
